New thread with added arse kicking

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 21/07/2007 21:00

Yeah, I'm glad he's back safely too, really.

He might be a bit of an arse, but he's my bit of an arse

His battles with dd are driving me to distraction though. He seems to think that he's dealing with another adult, but turns into a tantrumming child himself when dd acts like the child she is.

Know what you mean - DH always seems to have to up the ante, and escalate things, when if he was a bit calmer, they would probably calm down too. Mind you, it's easy to say, but I'm guilty of the occasional hissy fit myself.

WigWamBam · 21/07/2007 21:10

You really are married to my dh ...

Yep, am nodding furiously at the upping the ante and escalating things - maybe it's a man-thing.

And yep, I can do a good hissy fit myself when I have to; I just pick my battles a lot better than he does!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 21/07/2007 21:11

Yes - me too (except when pre-menstrual).

WigWamBam · 21/07/2007 22:38

Ohhhh yes, and me

JackieNo · 22/07/2007 09:09

Hurray - good news on the sewer front! It stopped bubbling up just before 11pm last night, and so this morning I've washed DD's hair (not done for about 2.5 weeks due to the chicken pox, so severely overdue) and had a shower, and put some washing in. Joy.

ForcesSweetheart · 22/07/2007 13:23

So glad it's all getting back to normal for you Jackie. Feels fantastic to have a shower when you've been unable to doesn't it?

JackieNo · 22/07/2007 13:29

Yuup - it certainly does. Though actually I wasn't too bad: being able to flush the toilet was more necessary.

WigWamBam · 22/07/2007 17:39

Thank goodness for thatm Jackie; being able to flush the loo again must be such a relief

My SIL is in Cheltenham and is flooded. There is water everywhere, the roads are flooded and the railway lines are all under water - but she has just been informed that the water is being cut off for three days due to ...

wait for it ...

a water shortage

OP posts:
JackieNo · 22/07/2007 19:17

Oh golly, WWB - how horrible for her - I read about this - I think the shortage is because the (contaminated) flood waters are all over the bit where they treat the water. So grim for her. Can they get out, or are they sticking it out there?

ThestralFeet · 23/07/2007 11:31

Good grief - sounds like we have got off really lightly... lots and lots of water everywhere but we live in the incredibly well drained fens and the drains are just about holding out. All the farmland has suffered horribly though, there is going to be a massive shortage of veg because it's all rotting in the fields and the tractors can't get on there to harvest it or to plant any more

WWB & JN sounds like you have had a really rough weekend, hope things start to improve now.

In fact yesterday it was warm enough to go to Skegness for the day, dd had a donkey ride and we all ate sausage rolls and ice cream on the beach

WigWamBam · 23/07/2007 12:32

I hope they were Gregg's sausage rolls in honour of the MN Food Police, TigerFeet

Jackie, they're staying for now, but if things get worse they will reconsider.

I did find out after I posted that although there's plenty of water in the reservoirs, the water treatment plant has flooded so until they have cleared that, they can't process any more water. There is a possibility that they will lose electricity as well, as one of the power stations is flooded.

Everywhere locally has sold out of bottled water, but SIL has to go to Bristol today and will bring more water back for both her and MIL. Apparently some of the supermarkets are giving out bottled water, but of course there are long queues for it and it's running out almost as quickly as it arrives, and MIL isn't able to get to the supermarket without SIL - who is at work. The water board are doing absolutely nothing.

SIL's roof is leaking as well in a couple of places - so she has water everywhere but none to drink. She can at least use the water she's collecting from the leaks to flush the loo though!

She starts a new job today so has to stick it out for now but we have offered to go and fetch MIL tonight - she won't be able to stay with us because she won't go upstairs, but there is a Travelodge down the road which we could book her into for a couple of days. She's going to see how things go today and then decide once dh is home whether she's going to come up. It will mean that dd and I will have to spend the next couple of days at the hotel with her (which will be nice ) but at least she'll be more comfortable than she would be at home.

ThestralFeet · 23/07/2007 14:45

It wasn't Greggs, but was from a local baker so the same thing in essence I think! No froot shoots were consumed though, so I haven't been completely non-mn-pc

Sounds like you are having a nightmare atm, if there is anything I can do, just shout.

JackieNo · 24/07/2007 20:31

OK - the stress means I've been snacking for England this week - I'm definitely going to have put on (just weighed myself). But will be snacking on cherries tonight (not the ones we picked) in a semi-virtuous way.

littlemisssensible · 25/07/2007 10:09

Hi All,

Got back from Butlins Friday evening but I've been washing and trying to dry stuff ever since so only just got to catch up on the thread!

Congratulations to Agalch and Mrs JC for your crowns!

JackieNo I'm sorry to hear about your flood related problems, I hope all is well now and todays rain doesn't cause more problems. I've got a very nice (and fairly healthy) cherry muffin recipe in my GI cookbook if you're still interested!

WWB sorry to hear about DD. I remember you mentioning those sorts of problems before. Have you managed to get anyone in the medical proffesion to take your concerns seriously yet? I hope you SIL is coping with bthe floods too! Did she say put or has she had to find other accomadation now?

We had a reasonably dry (in Minehead) holiday but got soaked whilst visiting Wookey Hole on the way home! DD had a brilliant time though and I put on 4lbs . I'm aiming to be back to the weight I was before we went away by this weeks weigh in!!!! Then I promise I'll get my act together and stop all the binge snacking!

Kewcumber · 25/07/2007 11:46

Hi I'm back from teh IOW - lovely time (ate too much .

Sorry about floods those who are/were flooded. Sorry about MIL WWB - how lovely for you a chance to bond with her

Forces are you still going to London picnic on Sunday? I want to go but want someone to hold my hand [pathetic emoticon]

ThestralFeet · 25/07/2007 12:10

Oh did you enjoy IoW Kewc? We are off there for a week, on Saturday [excited]

Kewcumber · 25/07/2007 12:13

Loved it. My sister has a house there so go 2/3 times a year. Am planning to go back for a week around August Bank hols.

Kewcumber · 25/07/2007 12:13

where are you going?

ThestralFeet · 25/07/2007 12:25

St Helens - we are staying in a static caravan right next to Bembridge Harbour.

We are going with the inlaws so we have instant babysitters

Am looking forward to spending some time with dd without having to rush her somewhere

Kewcumber · 25/07/2007 14:17

my sisters house is very close - near the flamningo park nr Seaview. St Helens is lovely has a ovely beach. Do you know Bembridge? There is a fab deli that does the most delicious baguettes.

TigerFeet · 25/07/2007 14:24

Have been to IoW before but not Bembridge - all hints re nice delis gratefully received . We're just near the harbour so if the weather holds out it will be perfect for dd, she loves boats, beaches, rock pools and all things seasidey.

We stayed in Seaview last time we went - Pondswell Chalets. Had a good holiday but the accom was a bit damp and not overly clean so haven't gone back there this time!

How lovely to have relatives in such a lovely spot, our seaside relatives are in Blackpool which is great in its way but I prefer quieter seaside places myself! Imagine your ds next year, in and out of rock pools, loving every second

Kewcumber · 25/07/2007 14:40

shame you're not going to be there in August. I'm going back for the week around August bank holiday.

TigerFeet · 25/07/2007 15:09

It is a shame, I'd love to meet you

Did the meetup crash and burn then?

Kewcumber · 25/07/2007 15:25

I'm going to have 14/15th August off so was going to ask if anyone wanted to meet then. Or a Friday...
