How to be fit/lose weight with a baby

Totally stuck on how to lose weight and be healthy when I'm working full time and have a 1 year old!! I'm not very overweight - only need to lose about a stone to get back to pre-baby weight - but I feel so flabby and unfit and getting really down about how none of my old clothes fit me. I've tried slimming world for about 3 months now but only managed to lose 5lbs in total (0.5-1lb most weeks and then maintain the last 2). Feels like I'm just throwing money away. I'd love to be able to do some regular exercise - I manage 1 class at my local church hall most weeks but that doesn't feel anywhere near enough to make any real difference. No idea how to fit in any more though! Not really sure what the point of this post is other than to moan 😂 And plead for advice??!

Could you not go for walks? Maybe 2-3 evenings a week. It would be good for you and the baby too.

See exercise as a nice to have when you can fit it in and don't rely on it to lose weight. Weight loss is all about diet. Ensure there is a deficit between calories in and calories out and you will lose the weight. Accept this as rational logic and if there are other factors working against this rational logic- eg emotional eating- then you need to tackle the root cause of that before you can win the battle with your weight long term. Good luck!

I follow Lucy Wyndham-Read on YouTube. She has workouts that are 4, 7, 15 and 20 minutes. It sounds daft that working out for 7 minutes would actually do anything but it really helps ease you in and you can do as many short workouts as you can in an evening, for example. I've lost 10 lbs so far Smile

I'm in the same boat OP with 1-1.5 stone to lose to get back to my pre-baby weight. I'm using the sweat with kayla app as I can do the workouts anywhere and meal planning has helped to

Same OP- I’m running round my close 2 a week and exercises afterwards for 30mins- trying for 3 a week but bloody hard to find any time. I’m concious that it’s 90% diet!

I've had a stone to loose for 3yrs since my LG arrived and have finally managed it with the Keto diet!
It's hard as no sugar and very limited carbs but the weight has dropped off steadily and I'm now, after 4 months finally back to pre pregnancy weight.... and no exercise here Wink

Thanks for the replies. YouTube videos sound like a good idea - although motivating myself to even get on my trainers in order to do a 7 min video would be tough 🙈 Need to focus on diet most of all anyway I guess. Maybe good old fashioned calorie counting is the way to go rather than slimming world?!

Was in the same boat.

Short HIIT workouts at home 20 mins - you can manage that easily. Set yourself a challenge. Do the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. Started in March, ended up with almost a six pack by July. I never had a six pack ever before I had DD Grin

There is a support thread on Exercise board. Join the the gang.

Also, get the MyFitnessPal app. Combo of calorie counting, 5 days a week short 20 mins workout at home and walking as much as I could sorted me.

And get the trainers on and then just do it. I found that if I just said to myself: put the trainers on, once I had them on, it would have been stupid to take them off Grin

For motivation - measure yourself and take pics, preferably with just exercise top/leggings: back, front, side.

Repeat after 10 workouts - you will see a difference - I promise you. And that will keep you going.

@bugeyedbarber thank you - such useful advice! You're right - once the trainers are on it'd be silly not to do a bit of exercise at least... I'll look up the support thread too. Re diet: I'll give myfitnesspal a try - sw doesn't seem to be working for me so definitely worth trying the cheaper (free!) alternative 👍🏼
