Early menopause, pre diabetes and 6 stone overweight

After some tests to see if I’m going through an early menopause (I am) they also found out I’m pre diabetic. I’m 35.

I’m also 6 stone overweight. Where the hell do I start? It’s so overwhelming. I want to do something about this. I’ve tried slimming world and weight watchers but I just can’t get on with them. I lose for a bit then start putting it back on, even if I stick to the plan. Any other bright ideas?

Start with a smart scale so you can track; water, fat, muscle mass etc.
Then cut back on extras and move more.
Everyone I know knows exactly what their extras are, evening snacking, weekends out, booze etc.

I recommend reading the Obesity Code. It helped me figure out where I was going wrong and what I needed to do. For me it's intermittent fasting. The simplicity of it makes it very easy to stick to, when I'm fasting I can't eat anything and at mealtimes I can eat anything, and it's working really well.

It's really hard isn't it? I'm 33 and about 5 stone overweight, and probably heading towards diabetes if I do t sort it out soon. Does your gp do any sort of weight loss support programme? I've signed up for one with nine and saw a dietitian last week which o found helpful (I too have tried WW, Slimming World etc without long term success.
Last week we broke down my eating habits for a typical day, and chose 2 things to change for the next month, as a start. In my case it's changing my evening snack and biscuits during the day.
I was told the key is not to try changing everything at once and "banning" the unhealthy stuff, because it's not sustainable. He also said not to berate yourself if you can't manage every day - so if I have a day where I really want a biscuit or another day I really want a bag of crisps instead of fruit/yogurt, that's fine, as long as it's not every day.
Obviously exercise plays an important part, not just for weight loss but overall health, but that's easier said than done between work, kids, household stuff etc.
Not sure if this (sorry, longer than intendedBlush) has been any help, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone, and it's all do-able in small steps Smile

I started at 19st 2lb on New Years Day and I'm down to 17st 2lb today, lost 2st which is 10% of my body weight (yay!). My final goal of having the top end of a normal BMI (7st loss) is too long and too far away to focus on so I am doing mini targets of a stone and/or 10% off at a time. 1st stone was by half term, 2nd stone by end of term, 3rd will be for end of next term at end of June (Scotland) etc. It gives me a sense of satisfaction as I hit each mini goal and the motivation to set the next without worrying too much about the end goal. Keeping a visual aid of what you have achieve so far helps too (I use an excel graph with progress and targets).

Each time I set a new mini goal I give myself a new challenge. The challenge for losing the first stone was simply stop snacking and lower portions sizes. The second stone was recording calories in MFP and keeping within weekly limits. This 3rd stone its keeping within calories and eating healthier with more veg. Hopefully by the time I set the target for the 4th stop I'll be more mobile and will introduce exercise safely.

The Blood Sugar Diet is all you need. You need to do everything possible to turn your health around. I also suggest you talk to your gp about HRT.

managedmis · 10/04/2019 19:12

Blood sugar diet or low carb.

Check out the bootcamp threads, change your life. Loads of support.

Obesity code. Intermittent fasting. You are the perfect candidate. Has been a life changer for me

YodelAreCompletelyShit · 10/04/2019 19:34

Is intermittent fasting always 5:2?

Oysterbabe · 10/04/2019 19:38

No, you can do any pattern you like. I do OMAD Monday - Thursday then eat 3 meals but no snacks Friday - Sunday. I'm amazed how well it's working.

Annietheacrobat · 13/04/2019 19:02

Yodel I do 16:8 which is minimum sixteen hours every day but in theory you can eat what you like in your window. During week I will fast for 20 h+ most days and then relax to 16:8 at weekend. Occasional day off when hungover. Have been doing for 14 months and completely sustainable

HastaLaVistaPrint · 15/04/2019 08:04

I'm starting OMAD today. I had some success with 16:8 when I was also running, but I did tend to overeat massively in the 8 hour window.

@Oysterbabe, can I ask, have you lost lots of weight?
