Fitbit exercise calories

Hello!

I’m trying to lose quite a bit of weight at the moment, I’ve alresdy lost just over 2 stone.

I’ve started doing a lot more exercise, but I’m confused about the calories my fit bit and my fitness pal are giving me.

For example, today my daily calorie allowance is 1300. I’ve then apparently earned 1,226 calories. This is doing an exercise dvd, and almost 13,000 steps.

How accurate is this? I am very overweight (bmi over 35). Should I eat them?

Thanks for any help!

No don't eat them! The difference between what you eat (calories in) and what you expend (calories out) is how you will lose weight. The bigger the difference, the bigger/faster the weight loss.

1300 is low for someone with a BMI of over 35 trying to lose weight

Fitness tracker calorie burns are very very inaccurate.

I’d suggest looking up teamrh on Facebook. Man knows his stuff.

If you are hungry, eat something. But don’t view it as ‘I’ve earned this as I’ve moved more’.

🎉 Well done on the weight loss!!! 🎉

How long was the exercise DVD? That feels high!

Don't eat them back.

NauseousNancy · 12/03/2019 21:57

Dvd was around 30 minutes - it’s level 3 of the 30 day shred.

I have been eating around 1800 calories a day, having a day ‘off’ on a Saturday where I don’t track. But I’m not really losing weight all that quickly so not sure whether I need to have less!

If mfp days 1300 ands you're eating 1800 plus an off day of more that seems loads?

Or am I confused?

HundredMilesAnHour · 12/03/2019 22:00

Why aren't you tracking on a Sat? You could easily spoil all the good work you've done during the rest of the week by bingeing on Sat.

NauseousNancy · 12/03/2019 22:03

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I was originally set at 1.5lb a week loss which gave me around 1800 cals. I’ve not been eating exercise calories. I’ve recently changed to 2lbs to see if that’ll help me lose, but was just wondering whether I should be eating the exercise calories.

Don’t log on a Saturday because to be honest I need the break from the relentlessness of counting! But, maybe that needs to stop. I had been kinda hoping that not eating exercise calories other days may have balanced it out...

Also, don’t really binge. Just don’t track.

When my BMI was 40 down until it was closer to 30 I was eating no more than 1000 calories a day 6 days a week, and probably 1600-2000 on a Sunday (when I had a Sunday roast with pudding).

Remember that your body will not be devoid of energy available to use - you have ample numbers of fat cells to burn if needed Blush

Its much easier to eat fewer calories when you're bigger. Now my BMI is under 25 I find it hard to manage on less than 1500 calories per day. But back when I was obese it was much easier.

I just make sure that every calorie is "worth it" - so calories to fill me up and fuel me as much as possible. Absolutely no wasted or empty calories.

NauseousNancy · 12/03/2019 22:23

Thats an amazing weight loss! But I just know in myself that is not achievable for me, I know I would eat 1,000 calories a day for a short period of time and binge and end up bigger. Been there, have the extra pounds to show for it! I’m trying to do this in a way that makes me address my food issues along the way, and super low calorie is not for me.

But, I’m so glad it worked for you and you have done so well!
