Is there anything I can do to firm backside/thighs/gut?

I’m 57 and my body’s a mess. I cannot bear to see myself unclothed. I’m 5ft 6 and 11st 9lbs, so a size 16. I have spent my entire life gaining and losing the same 20lbs. I had anorexia as a teen and bulimia in my 20’s. I CANNOT BEAR THE IDEA OF ANOTHER DIET.

What can I do?

Squats are your friend.

I’d contact a personal trainer and get professional (do your research well) opinion.
A well rounded group of exercises certainly will help.

Yoga as well may help but I would go for weights and a trainer or a class like body pump

Thank you. I think a trainer would be best but the least expensive one to come back to my contacting them is £40 per session. Gym fee isn’t bad at £42 per month but, I’d need a couple of sessions per week she said initially so, over the month that’s pushing £400. So, I just assumed I’d have to do it by myself. I used to do yoga regularly so, may go back to that but, I’m 5 years older than I was, last time I went.

Hiking?

crossfit. not sure where you are but my box (gym) in london has 55yrs plus sessions . whenever I've gone elsewhere there's been a real mix of ages going as everything can be tailored to your needs. it's a cheaper way of feeling like you're getting personal training sessions as classes and tuition is quite small and personal. v good for muscle building / maintaining and bone health and strips the flab at the same time :)

Thanks all. Will give it some thought. I feel embarrassed by my body but also lack of fitness. However, if I don’t do something, I’ll be a decrepit old lady before I know it 😐

I walk with the dog but, it gets slower and slower depending who I meet in the field!

So, have decided on a cycle ride each day. There are several 30 min routes I can do which are local to me. I have a bike which get used very rarely so, no expense in having to buy anything (other than a new helmet). I will also do a daily number of squats/curl ups/inner thigh presses and butt tucks with a large exercise ball which has gathered dust in the garage for some time. I’ll see where I am in a month with just these few changes, additional to my dog walking etc.

I’ll also try to get more sleep. DH is a night owl and I have been going to bed later and later recently. Add that to being mid 50’s....it’s no wonder I’m tired all the time.
