If not Slimming World, then what? Need to be weighed and shamed weekly!

As per title, I feel the need to go to a class and be weighed but after 20 years of doing Slimming World on/off I can't face it again!

Any suggestions please? Don't fancy trying WW either...

weight yourself each day, write down what and how much you eat into a calorie counter and exercise a bit.
eat a healthy mixed diet of a variety of foods and just adjust the portion sizes so you meet the calories desired.
no junk and no alcohol avoid any sugary items that have no fiber (so fruit is fine, ice cream not so much).

Every day?! Shock I was doing once a week but it keeps going up and now I need to lose 20lbs Sad

I've tried listening to an app called the Virtual Gastric band (hypnotherapy), writing things down, Slim Fast, JERF (Just Eat Real Food), not weighing and just intuitively eating (turns out I intuitively eat FAR TOO MUCH!).

Will be doing a dry Feb so that will help.

Need to get my fat arse in the gym but loathe exercise...

I'd use the MyFitnessPal app.

And no need to weigh yourself more than twice a week. The natural fluctuations in weight will just drive you mad and do no good.

Good luck Smile

See I weigh daily because of the natural fluctuations. It’s too easy to falsely believe a higher than expected weight isn’t something you gained if you don’t see the trend up over the previous few days.

SatsumaFan · 28/01/2019 21:42

I've not used My fitness pal for years, is it easier these days? I used to type in my meal and it'd give me various options and I'd just tap the one with the lowest calories Grin

Off to take a look, thanks.

My Apple Watch pears nicely with a program called YAZIO but I thing MFP is better.

SatsumaFan · 28/01/2019 22:46

Apple watch "pears" - I like it! Grin I don't have a smart watch or Fitbit. Just tried to log into MFP, reset password, still won't log in (Just blinks). I'm doomed to be overweight forever...

Weighing every day works for me. There's an argument for daily weighing then taking the average for the week. Plotted on a graph the average should decrease over the weeks.

Mfp you have to be genuinely honest re measurements. I found the first 1.5 weeks the hardest but as a creature of habit I was able to mix up a week's menu which helps. Joining a chat on mfp could also help.

I'm currently doing the low carb boot camp on here. I post most days and log official weight on a Monday. Seeing others losing weight encourages and frustrates me all at once.

I've also set mini goals so by end of Feb I want to have lost 6lbs and then by end of March ideally 6-8lbs. Focusing on Feb right now but March 31 is my birthday and I want to not be "overweight" for my birthday!

SatsumaFan · 29/01/2019 12:54

@m0therofdragons thanks for your tips. I am going to use MFP and have asked a RL friend who I know wants to lose a bit of weight if she'd like to join me.

I changed my cereal for yoghurt and an apple for breakfast, and lost my toast when having poached eggs and ham for lunch, and now have such a headache Sad Drinking lots of water (peeing for Britain!).

I'm actually liking the weighing every day thing so far as lost 1.5lbs since yesterday (all water). It's the opposite to SW so I've never tried it.

My birthday is early May so would also like to be back as a healthy bmi by then Smile

I use mfp to plan meals but am doing the low carb boot camp so not calorie counting as such however mfp does it and I can see the difference reducing carbs makes.

Good luck!

SatsumaFan · 03/02/2019 21:48

Just checking in to update and say thanks again for recommending MFP. I've been logging everything daily, my limit being 1500kcals a day to lose 1.5lbs per week. Only went over on one day but it was ds's birthday so a jammy doughnut was consumed! Not going to lie, I am going to bed hungry. And I do still get confused when there are multiple options for the same food item, but just use my judgement on whether it's been a small bowl of soup, or how much 0% yoghurt I've had etc.

Am liking the daily weighing as it does focus me. No more thinking I can have a cheat day then make up for it later in the week. Tho I lost 1.5lbs Tues, another 1.5lbs Weds...Then nothing since. Which is a little frustrating. But I am happy I've lost 3lbs in a week (half of it was water I'm sure!).

Dry Feb will be a challenge but hoping it'll help too Smile

i like being able to scan and enter into the data base foods you have in the fridge. it's the little bar code symbol, it opens a camera and it finds it for you.
next pick up a small food scale and use your measuring spoons.
i'm really liking my apple watch, the rings are really motivating!

SatsumaFan · 05/02/2019 07:53

Ooh I've not used the barcode function yet - keep forgetting! Will try it today.

I have been using my small digital food scale to weigh out corn flakes or bran flakes. But made sweet potato soup on the weekend and didn't have a clue how many calories were in a big bowl.

Anyway, I must be doing something right as have lost 4lbs in 8 days! Only got another 3.5 to go to be back in the healthy BMI range Smile (albeit right at the top and I'm aiming for middle...).

You can also create a recipe. Fab for home made soup. Key is knowing how many portion sizes at the beginning.
