Weight gain for no reason (that I can think of) ideas as to why?

I'll start by saying that I'm 45. I used to be much bigger and was almost 15 stone at 26 and got down to 9.5 stone over a number of years with WW. I stayed at around 9.5 stone for about 10 years by continuing to follow WW propoints on my own and largely eating what I wanted at the weekends but following strictly during the week. NOTHING has changed, I am not eating any differently, less if anything and yet I now weigh 10 stone 5. I've had my thyroid checked and apparently it's 'normal'. Why am I gaining weight when I'm not doing anything differently?! I've gained over 10 pounds in around 8 months. A typical day looks like this..

Around 4 coffees with skimmed milk
2 bananas
An apple
Turkey salad with 1 hardboiled egg, no coleslaw but low fat salad cream or dressing (from a cafe near work) OR we soup with 4 ryvitas and laughing cow light.

Home made chilli with cauliflower rice OR home made bolognese with spiralised bns. 40g of grated reduced fat cheddar with each. bol and chilli made with half 5% fat mince and half lentils.

I MAY have a 40g bowl of shreddies with skimmed milk in the evening but not always.

Around 3 litres water throughout the day.

I very rarely eat bread.

Any thoughts? Honest opinions? It can't just be my age can it? Confused

Do you think it could be perimenopause?

BWcastle2000 · 12/01/2019 08:09

I’m 46, your weight gain sounds like me a year ago. I’ve started to lose the weight now i’m on HRT. Might be worth looking at the symptoms.

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. Off to Google that. Actually, I have noticed that my periods have become really irregular. Now I think about it I only seem to have one every 2 or 3 months.

I’m a bit older and have found my weight has suddenly gone up too - I’ve put on a stone in three months

I think it might be oerimenopause related but also a change of job means I no longer walk anywhere. Have your activity levels changed at all?

Oceanbliss · 12/01/2019 08:18

How much quality sleep are you getting? I read somewhere that there is a connection between not getting enough good quality sleep and weight gain.

Bluesheep8 · 12/01/2019 08:24

Now those 2 replies are interesting...Yes, I have changed job in that time. I used to walk to and from the station before and now have to drive (I hadn't thought that not doing that bit of walking would make such a difference but you might have something there) Re sleep, that's interesting too as I have a tendency to wake in the night and worry but I've done that for years... Thank you for your opinions and suggestions

I used to have to walk briskly to and from the station and both ends of my commute, probably about forty minutes in total.

I am sure that was the thing that was keeping my weight in check!

Bluesheep8 · 14/01/2019 12:49

SNAP! I did exactly the same in terms of walking. Right I think that's my answer. New job means having to drive so that's it, I'm hitting the treadmill.

Ok, so inspired by alma I've started walking again. Only get half an hour for lunch but since Monday I've been doing 15-20 mins fast walking and went to the gym tonight and did 20 mins on the treadmill. Going to increase the treadmill time gradually. Glad I've made a start at least.
