Does anyone do meal prep for the week ?

So I am not "dieting" as such at the moment but I am eating healthier. I'm having three meals a day. So today I had

Breakfast- over night oats.
Lunch-hard boiled eggs on brown toast.
Tea-chicken, veg and sweet potato.

My question is. If I made tea for a week and put them in food containers and in the fridge, how does this work because surely if I made chicken veg and potato on Monday by Friday it's not gunna be any good ? Is it ? And do you heat it up ? I've seen loads of people doing meal preps and they cook it all Sunday night box them all up and put them in the fridge. And she has one every evening. Some body help me please feeling a bit thick 🤦🏻‍♀️

Freeze the meals, don’t put in the fridge!

You should add a lot more veg, 7 portions a day is what you should be aiming for.

Thanks. I had cauliflower, broccoli, sprouts and kale and carrots on my tea tonight

You should be having 2 snacks/ small meals in between your current meals.
Nuts, a little amount of fruit, rice cakes and cottage cheese etc.
And yes, freeze food in portions that you are worried won't keep.

Chicken lasts 3 days- so if you make 7, you have one that night, two more in fridge, rest in freezer.

I've always done it twice a week- Wednesday and Sunday or Tuesday and Saturday and then had one weekend day off for a treat day.

Some things last better- but I tend to go with 3 days (including the one it's Cooked on) as I wouldn't want to get sick.

Might be an idea to prep some snacks too- even just cut up some carrots and buy some hummus (tbsp at a time) or the mini pots.you will be hungry on what you've said otherwise.

Also, I like variety so when I prep I tend to do something like bolognese sauce and some salmon- then I freeze most of it.
Next prep I might do chicken and some prawns- then I'll freeze most of that but get some of the bolognese or salmon out from the other prep I did a few days earlier.
I also try and mix up the veg- eg. Baby corn and sugar snaps as a side with 2 prepped meals (out of 4) and the other two with peas and carrots.
It's (marginally) more time consuming but much more satisfying and less boring

You don’t need snacks, it’s healthy to feel hungry between meals.

You may have had 5 varieties of veg but were they a full portion each?

Try adding veg and protein into breakfast and lunch.

Bumblebee39 · 11/01/2019 19:36

@FissionChips
No you don't need snacks if you're eating decent meals. These meals look small and unvaried so I'd add some snacks. I don't snack much myself as I eat heartier meals.

Why?

violetxo · 11/01/2019 19:48

I don't like snacking.
I don't feel hungry at all I've been doing this for a few days now and I'm fine 🙂

halftwit

Because it boosts your metabolism to burn off the heavier meals. It stops your body becoming hungry and hoarding calories from meals.
Little and often is better than three bigger meals.

FissionChips · 11/01/2019 20:42

Nonsense. Look at all the people around the world who traditionally don’t eat snacks or have only one or two meals a day, are they fat? No.

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 11/01/2019 20:52

Ok Fission, most people that are malnourished in this world, that survive on one meal- are not indulging in much in the way of beneficial calories.
Perhaps, on the other end of the scale- you could research a sumo wrestlers diet.
I won't try to convince you further. It makes no odds to me...though I have more than a passing interest or knowledge in nutrition. You seem to know it all so I'll leave you to access the info from another source in your own time.

OP- I wish you well with your new healthy eating plan.

ILoveChristmasLights · 11/01/2019 20:54

Little and often is NOT better.

FissionChips · 11/01/2019 21:10

Malnourished? I wasn’t talking about countries facing famine, I said ‘traditionally’.
