How do you motivate yourself to do it? Do you genuinely enjoy it?

I have a makeshift home gym as I find the real thing too intimidating. I know what exercises I should be doing and how to do them. I have enough time in both the morning and the evening to work out. I have appropriate clothing. I have a good playlist. Yet I can’t seem to push myself further than doing 15/20 minutes and then stopping. I’m not even worn out by the 20 minutes, I’m just I guess bored?

Does anyone have any tips on how to motivate myself to stay longer? I know 20 minutes every other day is not enough for the amount of weight I need to lose in the time scales I’m aiming for.

Any help/tips appreciated Flowers

I can only exercise if I listen to a podcast whilst doing it. I stick in my headphones and listen to one that really interests me (loads of health and fitness ones I can recommend) and before I know it I’ve done 45 mins on the exercise bike or walked for 4 miles

I was very unmotivated to exercise at home until I discovered Les Mills On Demand. I always liked the classes at the gym but none of the local gyms that I can afford had any Les Mills classes, so I bought a spin bike, a step and a set of weights. Now I do RPM, Sprint, The Trip, body pump, combat, step, attack and grit depending on my mood and how much time I have. It has a real feeling of being in an actual class at the gym which I never got from fitness DVDs. It's about a tenner a month.

I'm quite evangelical about it, they should pay me commission for the amount of friends and workmates I've talked into signing up.

If you're rural can you get out and do some hiking?

Simonsaysitschristmas · 12/01/2019 10:50

@halfwitpicker yes we do walk every weekend which is lovely! I’m vary wary of how sedentary I can be during the week though.

This thread seems to have kick started motivation in me again though as I have just smashed another work out so I am very thankful to you all Grin

BodySpace is an amazing app. You can choose what you'd like to achieve, it will then give you a wide selection of workouts to achieve your goal.

You can then pick one according to how many times you'd like to go and how long you'd like to train for. They're very well written out.

Once you've made your selection it will put it into your fitness calendar so you can see what workout you follow per day.

It's very interactive and you can add friends, post progress photos, get inspiration etc. it's completely free and easy to use.

It also calculates what weight you used etc and keeps adding them up. For example, I've done 227 000kg so far! So great for motivation.

I am buying a cross trainer machine for £169 and just going to use it whilst I watch my shows/films or something

Sorry @Simonsaysitschristmas and @halfwitpicker I'd not seen this thread since thursday nor do I know how to do links! One was the Joe wicks one you mentioned @Simonsaysitschristmas, the other was one for Mums but there's plenty in there. I'm just trying a new one every few days to find what I like. I did get slightly carried away and did one both Thursday night and Friday morning - I DON'T recommend that! I could barely move all weekend!! Confused

I usually put one something on YouTube by Athlean X - he has loads of bodyweight exercises and methods of ramping them if you are a newbie. Combat roles and plank kick-throughs are excellent BW/floor cardio.
