Stuff to do to avoid snacking

I’m bored! DH isn’t in tonight and teen DS is doing whatever teens do when they are shut up in their rooms.

In order to avoid eating crap I’m going to have a nice hot bath and listen to the next episode in my podcast.

What do you do instead of snacking?

Honestly? I pick the feathers out of my pillow whilst watching the telly Blush keeps my hands busy hahaha

I brush my teeth and then run hand cream into my hands.

We've also just bought a new sofa and carpet and therefore eating is now ONLY allowed at the kitchen table. That's massively reduced the mindless chomping in front of the TV.

I have a tin of imps - tiny liquorice sweets you get from the chemist. If I feel like snacking I pop one of them in my mouth as they are so strong they make anything you eat or drink for a good hour later taste like shit lol!

Drink water and fruit tea
Netflix
Bed early

Good ideas! I’m writing them down (slowly, in my best handwriting).

Chewing gum

@Sassy306 omg I remember Imps, I need to give this a go!

Cross stitch. Buy a kit if you've never done it before, it'll have everything you need. Can even do it with one eye on the telly

If you eat a high fat low carb diet, your craving for snacks goes completely. This is a biological hormonal drive not a willpower problem

Have enough good fats with your meal, they make you feel satisfied for longer.

This one is key though. Try and severely reduce sugar, cut out any refined sugar completely. Sugar gives you that spike followed by a sharp drop in blood glucose which makes you feel tired and craving that quick hit.

You will see the difference when you are refined sugar free. Even when you start feeling a bit peckish, you can easily put it at the back of your mind for 1-2-3 hours. It is not the desperate, all consuming, ravenous hunger where you just want to eat whatever, now. It’s more like a dull feeling where you think might be time for a meal, but no bother, will wait when it’s convenient.

This is when the snacking will die out naturally. It is not a good idea to eat between meals as it does not give insulin a chance to go down to allow our bodies to access and burn any stored fat. So your body will be forever only getting fuel from food only, putting any excesses into fat and never going the other way, burning excess fat for fuel to run the body. The bottom line is as long as insulin is high, no fat burning will be taking place. Any food stimulates the production of insulin, so snacking can beautifully sabotage your efforts.

I find a cup of hot milk with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg is very satisfying and relaxing at night.
