Hi,
I went for my first midwife appointment and my bmi was 44!
I'm 6ft 2/3 am I'm about 20 stone.
She was surprised it was so high, but now I have different tests and scans for the baby cause my bmi is over 30.
Can I diet and loose weight while I'm pregnant ??
I've always been this big, I know I eat the wrong things, and I don't want to have any complications with the baby.

You can't 'diet' as such- as in you can't starve yourself/ take slimfast etc but you can eat healthy. I went to SlimmingWorld world all through my pregnancy and if you follow it you are getting everything you need for the baby, it's not a 'diet' iyswim. Introduce lots more fruit and vegetables into your diet, swap sugary cereals and buttery toast for fruit and yogurt for example.

Hi @taylorbuff87

I'm in pretty much the same position. Just found out I'm pregnant. I'm around 6ft and 19st. Blush

I'm surprised your BMI was that much. Mine comes out at 36. I'm still in very early days. I want to loose some before first midwife appointment so BMI is below 35. I would like to continue to loose while pregnant so I way less at the end than now. I was 20st 6lb when I gave birth last time. Not going there again!

Are you sure your BMI has been calculated correctly? My BMI at 18.5 stone when I was at my absolute biggest was 44 and I am half a foot shorter than you - I don’t think your BMI should be quite that high!

I agree with not dieting but eating healthily, no rubbish and gentle exercise after the first trimester - but no need to be any less active than you currently are.

Congratulations Halo
