'Real' tips for weight loss

I know I can google diets and weight loss tips till the cows come home but I was wanting some advice on weight loss from 'real' people so to speak. What are your experiences, changes you've made and tips/diets that worked for you?

I wouldn't say I am overly heavy at 5'4 and 140 pounds(higher up on the BMI scale of healthy but yeah...) just wanting to shift some weight, say 10 pounds or so, as not happy with my weight gain. It's made me stomach seem always slightly round and I have a slight double chin. Ooh yeah sexy haha.

Anyway, like I mentioned above.

Best tips, tricks, changes and diets that worked for you?

All the best

Eat less and do more exercise Grin.

I’m the same-don’t need to lose much but 10lb would be perfect. I suspect that drinking a pint of water before each meal (my friend who lost lots of weight on WW always does this), cutting out booze, doing 10,000 steps each day and ensuring 1/3 of your plate is veg or salad are sensible changes to start with. Not eating in the evenings after dinner time as well.

Shall we start tomorrow? Grin

It depends on what your are currently eating. Do you always have a biscuit with a cup of tea? Do you go back for seconds? Are you in the habit of having some toast for supper?

There is no point in saying cut out cake and booze if you are teetotaller with a savoury tooth!

I find if I have decent protein with my lunch I’m much less likely to get tempted to eat badly later, that’s my dieting rule of thumb.

Stop snacking would be my best tip. Eat only at meal times.

FATE - Lots of people who'd like to lose a few pounds already don't snack. I don't during the week at all.

I'm losing weight slowly by exercising 2-3x a week and not snacking in the evenings. They're small changes for me so easy to stick to and the weight is finally shifting

Calorie tracking on my FitBit. It makes you really pay attention to portion sizes and snacks. I was doing it properly, weighing and tracking everything and it does work, especially if you exercise more too
I have fallen off the bandwagon a bit as it does take some self discipline and it's tricky if you want to eat out but it did work -just a case of eating less, moving more and being patient for results

Honestly? It's not popular but I stopped eating breakfast. Immediately cutting out about 300 calories and I just made sure I didn't eat more during the day to compensate.

Since then I have taken up running and really upped my exercise, which isn't for weight loss as such but obviously has a knock on effect. On days I'm exercising a lot I do eat breakfast, today I ran 12 miles so obviously ate breakfast before that. But yeah, stopping eating breakfast helped even when I wasn't exercising!

Look what you hate about being on a diet and why they don't work, I hate having to have a plan for my evening meal (rules SlimmingWorld out!), I also hate not feeling really full after my evening meal.

So now I eat whatever I like for dinner, and as much as I like. I counter this by having sensible breakfasts and lunches and not snacking In-between meals.

I'm a healthy weight after not being a healthy weight for a long time
