14:10 IF diet

Hi

I'm not really overweight. I would just like to lose a few pounds so I can get back into my size 12 jeans/work trousers (I'm only 5 ft 2). I don't want to have to go out and buy more if I can help it!

I tried doing the 16:8 diet for a couple of weeks and it absolutely worked BUT I struggled - I was feeling dizzy, shaky and a bit narky after about 14 hours of not eating. I know that eventually I would get used to it but I am a busy working Mum and felt like I couldn't keep up with the demands of life like that any longer. So...I stopped and the weight crept back on.

I was thinking of starting it again but this time being a bit more realistic and doing 14:10. I think it will be realtively easy.

Has anyone tried this with any success?

relatively not realtively

Did you clean fast? So only water/black tea/black coffee in the fasting time? I find if I do that I can easily do 16-20 hrs. If I drink squash or tea with milk I find it impossible.

ScattyPenny · 22/09/2018 11:17

Yep. Only water and black coffee during the fast time.

I think you have to give it a bit of time to get used to it. No reason not to start at 14:10 and build up though?

ScattyPenny · 22/09/2018 11:37

That's not a bad idea. I could do 14:10 for a month and see how it goes (I'll post the results on here).

Then, if it doesn't work, reduce it to 15:9 for a month and then...when I'm a bit more accustomed to it, do the full 16:8 again.

Makes sense, thanks

I do 23/1 fasting most days but I eat very high fat and very low carb. If you are still eating high carbs, I imagine fasting would be horrendous.

You shouldn't be feeling dizzy etc. I haven't eaten since 8pm last night at the moment and am completely fine, no drop in energy. I would check on how you are fueling yourself before going straight into fasting.

HollowTalk · 23/09/2018 17:57

Wow, @mooncuplanding. What would you eat in that hour? How much weight have you lost?

mooncuplanding · 23/09/2018 19:59

Well I just ate a chicken leg, loads of skin from the kids’ meals which they never eat, a loaded cauliflower cheese (made with full fat cream and cream cheese plus chilli and blue cheese), and a gigantic pile of creamer spinach (with mozzarella and soured cream)

It’s a big plate of food! But very very high fat which is what keeps you full.

I’ve been OMAD for about 6 months now....it just naturally came when I cut out refined carbs.

I didn’t have masses of weight to lose, I’ve lost 1.5 stone this year and am now pretty lean. 8.5 stones / 5ft 6

The main thing for me is the increased energy with no dips throughout the day so I get SHIT DONE

mooncuplanding · 23/09/2018 20:02

P.s. I reckon I could easily go 2 days fasting now. I’ve not tried it mainly because I still find meals ‘puntuate’ the day nicely but often I eat when not massively hungry even though I’ve not eaten for 24 hours

It’s fascinating

ScattyPenny · 24/09/2018 06:45

It really is fascinating.

To be fair, when I was doing low carb high a few years ago, I ate much less. Not once a day though! I did feel good with loads of energy.

I'm going to combine 14:10 with LCHF and start from there :)

The LCHF will help with the energy drops I am sure. But my advice is always eat when you are hungry and feeling faint.

Intuitive eating is where I am at, so for example, today I have weirdly woken up hungry which is incredibly strange for me at the moment, but I'm going to have an omelette. I am not going to fast all day and feel like shit - my body is telling me it needs some food, so it will have it!

ScattyPenny · 29/09/2018 20:23

It sounds like you've nailed it Moon. Your insulin levels are probably really stable and it means you can rely on intuition as an indication that you need nutrients as opposed to having mad and erratic cravings because of sugar dips.

I have to be careful with dieting (especially fasting) because if I start feeling shaky or faint, my anxiety goes through the roof.

I am doing the 14:10 at the moment and I'm making slow but steady progress.

Thanks :)
