Q: How to eat healthily on 2+ week holiday - all eating out

Hello. I'd love your advice and experience on how to eat healthily on holiday, specifically when you're away for 2+ weeks on an organised tour, with no self-catering facilities, moving to a new place each day, all meals in hotels/restaurants etc.
I've made really good fitness and weight progress in the last 2.5 months to prepare for this holiday (completed Couch to 5K programme, lots of other exercise each week, eating less with the help of MyFitnessPal ... in that time, I have lost 9.9 kg weight, so 1.5 stone) and would love to continue my good progress and habits, or at least not go backwards. I rarely drink alcohol, so that will not be a temptation.
I look forward to hearing your wisdom.
Thank you!

Good for you! You've made amazing progress! On your trip, I would avoid breads, carb heavy food and anything fried. I think you'll be just fine so long as you remain aware of your caloric intake. That's not to say you can't have the occasional splurge here and there! Just go and enjoy your vacation!

Yes Aquamarine . I would also not eat carbs. What I do here when we eat out (in Fr.) is to have fish au nature (no rich sauce) with the green veg. If you eat meat , ask for it without sauce too.

I would stick with fruit for breakfast too. Especially eat it on an empty stomach.

Of course have the odd dessert just not every day!! ( I often have either a starter and main course) or main course and dessert.)

Thank you, this is helpful. Let's see how my willpower stands up to temptation.

If you like cheese, order cheese when everyone around you is ordering pudding so that you don’t feel left out, or I sometimes get an espresso. It means I have nothing when people are having coffee after pudding, but I get a bit nibbly if everyone has pudding and I don’t.

Breakfast I would do nice plain yoghurt with some nuts and a little bit of fruit (maybe a tiny drizzle of honey), or something with eggs and fish for protein.

I’m not sure about your metabolism, but I can go a whole day on a latte if needed. Not healthy or nutritious, but if you end up somewhere with fast food only, it’s what I would choose.

Aah Dandelion Sometimes I have to withstand both cheese AND dessert (some french people eat so much when they're out) there were 8 courses at the Easter meal we ate (well dh and friends ate!!) I couldn't eat after the first 3 courses!!

That's a good idea about having a coffee in a junk food place.btw Grin

Thank you for the additional ideas.

DandelionAndBedrock: I don't have the strength to survive only on liquids so will leave that suggestion for others to try. I do like your idea of ordering something even if different to holiday companions to keep me going and involved e.g. cheese v dessert, drink v dessert.
