Veggie/atkins - can I be arsed?!

I know it's well 90's but I think I lost quite a lot of weight in a week doing atkins and I'm half debating trying it again for a very short time. I'm veggie tho so it is a bit of a challenge. Any suggestions, anyone veggie tried it? Or is this particular diet now a distant memory?

Not sure about Atkins but Slimming World is easy peasy for veggies. I've lost nearly 2.5 stone since January - just do green days and most foods are free - all fruit and veg/pasta/rice/quorn/qoya/tofu!! Unfortunately choc and cakes are not.

Atkins is old hat, these type of diets are now just described as Low Carb and are still popular.

What sort of a veggie are you?

Do you allow fish, milk, eggs, cheese?

I'm low-carbing and lost 6lbs last week (mostly fluid)

I've often wondered about Slimming World but never really looked into it. I don't get it, how can you eat as much rice as you want and still lose weight?!

I'm ovo/lacto, but don't do any animal products/fish etc. I've hit a bit of a plateau so I was debating a quick Atkinsy type burst to try to move things along. I've seen a book by Rose Elliot about low carb veggie diets, anyone seen/tried?

Bobint,

I don't really understand SW myself but it works! It's about food combining so that's how the rice/pasta works. For me I like it because I haven't really had to change what I eat, I can eat HUGE portions and there isn't a lot of weighing involved. I only weigh cheese, cereal and....that's it! Eggs are free too BTW so prob eat more of them these days. Also pulses and baked beans are 'super speedy' food so you get to trough loads and feel the wind.

LL - that sounds bloody great! Is there anyway of finding out how to do it without joining a meeting?

You can look on the website as lots of it you can access without being a member. However despite my initial scepticism about attending meetings it has been key for me - I love getting slimmer of the week awards and my 1/2 stone certificates are all on the fridge door! It also gets me out of doing the kids bedtime once a week and I can celebrate with a big curry when I get home. You could also just go along for the first time, pay for a book and have a talk through and then not bother with weekly weigh ins if you don't fancy it.

It is sooooo easy for veggies I am astounded. You don't have to look at any of the original/red day info as that is only needed if you want to eat fish or meat, in taht case I think you would have to weigh pasta/rice/potatoes etc.

I could give you some hints etc. via MN if you like....

There is a fantastic veggie low carb diet Im doing, and It's Rose Elliot " The vegetarian Low-carb Diet.
Its fantastic, only been on it a week, but half a stone lighter, and no hunger or cravings. Loads of yummy recipes in it too.
Good Luck!

LL- cheers, that would be great! I might look into going to a meeting as you say. I've been doing WW for a while but I'm getting bored and in a rut, so any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated, perhaps we could spur each other on!

Wisp - funny you should say that as I've just bought Rose Elliot's low carb cook book. I really like her books but I haven't looked at it yet. Do you think it's the sort of think you'd do longterm or just for a few weeks?

Wisp that does sound like a good one to follow but I do so love my carbs.

Bobint, SW are running an offer at the mo so if you know anyone who attends a group and you go along with them they will get a free week, saving a few quid.

At weigh in last night I lost 2 pounds by some miracle after 10 days of holiday eating/drinking, a wedding and even a surprise period!!! Makes me realise just how much I've changed my piggy eating habits in general though. Just half a pound off my 2.5 stone cert which seems to have taken ages to get....then I want to get my 3.5 before the end of July and reackon that will be it for me. In size 14 jeans and it feels fab.
