PCOS and weight loss

Hi
I’m early twenties, a size 14 and I’m obese. I can’t believe it. I have PCOS and have been told I have to lose weight as it will help my relieve my symptoms (and improve my fertility)
I used to just low-cal it for a fortnight on my fitness pal and lose a lot but it’s not been working for me. I’m really struggling with motivation and energy and I feel like I need a more structured plan. Can anyone recommend anything that worked for them please? I’ve been considering slimfast but I’ve heard there are specific diets for PCOS? I work out 3 times a week and work an active job, and I already eat relatively low carb (but I bloody love chocolate!)

Thank you Smile

Low-carb and low sugar is always recommended for pcos so I'm afraid the chocolate has to go

Have a look at The Body coach - either the books or if you are able to, pay the £100 for a personalised plan which will take into account your current weight and PCOS

Join slimming world. Go to group. Stay every week. Follow the plan and incorporate some exercise. If you don't like the group/leader find another one. Mine it utterly brilliant. First group I tried (round the corner from my house) utterly hopeless group of moaners. Mine are the most lovely positive group of ladies I have ever met. If you follow the plan you will have the tools to lose weight and keep it off which is what you really need ThanksThanks

I have PCOS too, though considerably older than you (Wink), and I also adore chocolate (as in, I could probably live on it Wink). I recently heard that craving chocolate is often a sign of magnesium deficiency - which reminded me that I hadn't craved chocolate for ages, for about the same time as I have been taking a magnesium supplement actually. Worth a thought.

Have you discussed metformin?

I have PCOS and am not overweight, but have been feeling ropey for a long time and like I was on a downward spiral.

If you are very insulin resistant this can impact on how tired you feel etc. My GP is hoping I will feel a lot more like my old self on the met which will hopefully help me be a bit more active again.

Met won't help you lose weight but just wondering if it might help give you a bit more energy. I don't eat badly and my GP herself said she doesn't think lifestyle factors alone would help me, hence happy to give me be met.

Are you TTC too?
