Exercise DVDs - the good, the bad and the ugly

On the exercise thread, it was suggested that a separate thread reviewing exercise DVDs would be a good idea so I thought I would start the ball rolling with my faves and my pet hates.

Faves -
Taebo, especially, Everybody get ripped and Abs and Glutes work out. The advanced workout on Everybody get ripped is, imo, one of the best workouts I have ever done because by the end, every part of my body has had a workout - heart, legs, arms, voice box, sweat glands - you get the picture!

I also have Taebo Energise but I'm still getting into that one.

Davina Macall's Power of 3 and 3 x 30 minute work out. I do enjoy both of these and surprisingly, I don't get irritated by her pointless witterings. The workouts are intense, targetted and effective. They really work.

10 Minute Solution - Kickbox Bootcamp by Keli Roberts. This is great for people who are short on time. There are 5 sections - basic, legs, arms, abs and cardio - all 10 minutes long and designed to maximise intensity.

David Kirsch's Sound Mind Sound Body - Ultimate Fitness Boot Camp - I really enjoy this one because it is only 43 minutes long and it combines cardio with weights so it is like circuit training.

Spokette...so, wihtout Dance section...how long is that DVD....I heard the Pump it up ones are good...but the dance section bit always put me off, as I am useless with those, lol

OrangeKnickers · 11/09/2008 13:30

Help! DVD recommendation request: Short of time (15mins a day?), without equipment and like cardio / dancey stuff.

I used to do The Hotpants workout with Dan someone, which I loved but I lent it to someone and can't rememeber who. Damn.

Reading the thread Davina and Tae-bo get the top marks. Do you think I'd get the benefit with such a short work out?

RGPargy · 11/09/2008 14:20

Yup! Any workout is better than none, surely?

OrangeKnickers · 11/09/2008 15:24

true - I am just being a lazy arse

RGPargy · 11/09/2008 15:41

Oh dont worry, me too. I cant seem to find time to exercise and if i do get a spare half an hour, i'm normally doing sodding housework or packed lunches etc.

I might try getting out of the lift at work one or two floors early and walking the rest of the way.

FairLadyRantALot · 11/09/2008 21:52

Tae bo tends to have short sessions anyway

NellMcAndrews could be cut short and one of them (can't recall which one right now) has even 15 minute bail out reminders...
but you could just do a section of any of hers and hten do your own cool down

Jade Goodies DVD also has short sections, so does the WW workout....Jades is o.k., but not great imo and haven't got the WW one

FairLadyRantALot · 11/09/2008 21:53

BTW...if you like dancing...why not just put music on to your liking at get dancing freestyle....very good fitness!

OrangeKnickers · 15/09/2008 11:49

Had a clever plan - We do Lovefilm and they send us DVDs every month. I have requested Billy Blank's Everybody get Ripped and Davina's new one. That way I can try before I buy.

RGPargy · 17/09/2008 00:23

That's a good idea. Dont you have to be committed to them for a certain period of time tho and do you have to rent every month without fail?

spokette · 17/09/2008 10:39

This DVd is fantastic for those short of time. The power blast section is brilliant and will leave you puffing hard!

3andnomore, without the dance section, the Pump it up DVD that I mentioned earlier still takes about 45 minutes including the cool down. Great workout.

babyinacorner · 17/09/2008 20:54

Keli Roberts step workouts are fantastic! - I used to do them all the time (i had the cher one too which I used to enjoy )but we have got rid of our video player now so need to get some of her step dvds instead.

At the moment I alternate between davina 'high energy five'(the aerobics and abs sections are fab) natalie Cassidy Then and now workout (generally a good workout and split into sections - not as tough aerobically as Davina though) and my new addition is ministry of sound pump it up -burn it.lose it. The aeroburn 15 min section is fantastic and really gets your heart rate up and the below the belt section (toning bit) is also pretty good.

RGPargy · 18/09/2008 19:47

Baby - i'm proud to say that when i actually get the opportunity to exercise, i reach straight for my Keli Roberts step video!! She does have a new(ish) DVD out but it's only available on the American area code (region 1, i thin???). If your DVD player is multi-region you should grab, copy it and give a copy to me!!

Just to let you know if you don't already.. that if you turn to channel 275 on sky (don't know about the others) this channel is called body in balance - it looks like it does various workouts but mainly yoga. Not sure if this is an extra channel to pay for.. not even sure I have it as its on 6am till 8pm.

I found this info on another website and thought it was useful to know..
