Anyone about who could give a bit of advice about why I'm not loosing weight?

Started seriously trying to loose weight a month ago.
I've been sticking to 1200 calories a day, walking at least 10000 steps. I've joined the gym and been doing cardio and weights and a few classes. And I've literally lost nothing.
Since the menopause I've gained 3stone ( mostly around my waist) and I just can't shift it!!!
It's soul destroying and I'm getting desperate.
I don't expect miracles but would be happy with a slow 1lb a week.
According to scales
Body fat 39.4
Water. 39.3
Bmi 30.3

Anyone got any advice please??

I lost a lot of weight doing Crossfit. I found that I went to the gym on my own I actually wasn't really pushing myself enough.

Also what are the 1200 calories? Try to think about content, I could eat 1200 calories in bread everyday, it probably wouldn't help me lose weight

displacementofwater · 20/07/2018 12:34

Interested in the responses to this because I'm having the exact same issue with similar numbers to you and doing cardio etc. I'm also menopausal and have an underactive thyroid.

Are you using a calorie tracker? I use My Fitness Pal to track calories and have decided to pay more attention to my macros to see if that helps. I read about them on another thread so did a bit of research at IIFYM.com. I've only just started though so can't tell you if it works for me yet! Might be worth a look for you.

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 13:11

I am using a calorie tracker ( Fitbit )

I not so long ago had a health check up and thyroid was fine.
It's just so disheartening isn't it?
When you are actually doing something and getting zero results

Have you done your measurements? You might be losing inches even if you’re not losing weight. Are you eating enough gut friendly foods and fibre?

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 13:24

No I've not done my measurements.
Will do them Sunday night ready for a fresh week on Monday.
What kind of gut friendly food would you suggest?

Also will try and look at macros.
Is that were you are supposed to have equal carb, protein and fats?

I’m sorry but the key words in your op are ‘since the menopause’. I’m peri and already have an excellent diet, but I needed to up my exercise (and I already did ten ish kmsteps,on a normal day anyway, so I’m now well over that) I also decided I could easily give up the one thing that was probably spoiling my good diet, wine. I love a few glasses of white but don’t really miss it. I had a few months of alcohol free, extra exercise and sticking to my usual vegetarian diet and I was rubbing my hands thinking ‘woah the pounds are going to drop off now!’. Nope. I put 7lbs on. It is demoralising. There is a good thread in AMA from a dietician, someone asked about peri/meno weight loss and she suggested high protein v low carb, but, when asked if she’d ever had a patient that she knew stuck to plan 100% but still didn’t lose anything, she said yes.....all of them were peri/meno women. Sad

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 16:13

I already did 10k steps a day, have for many years ( I'm walking all day at work)
Honestly I don't know what I'm even asking advice on anymore!
I'm literally just thinking out loud.
When I got on the scales on Wednesday and had not lost a pound, I just stood there crying, actually crying!!

I would try a week where you weigh to the gram everything you eat in case your measurements are off. I'd also try drinking more water each day - my weight loss is always better with more water. I'd also weigh at least weekly and go a couple of weigh ins so you can see a trend rather than a snapshot. Keep going though, like others have said you have probably swapped fat for muscle if you've upped your exercise

AssassinatedBeauty · 20/07/2018 16:31

Are you weighing out and measuring your food exactly before entering it into the tracking app?

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 16:43

I'm weighing most things .
Except stuff like rocket and cucumbers, should I weigh this??

Jonbb · 20/07/2018 16:44

Up your protein intake and reduce carbs and calories.

InDubiousBattle · 20/07/2018 16:49

I would make an appointment with your gp tbh. With a bmi of 30 you should have lost weight at 1200 a day for a month. Several pounds. Check your scales, check you are actually eating and drinking what you think you are then doctors.

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 16:56

I have a Gp appointment in a few weeks so will definitely be mentioning it.
I'm sat here ready for a fat burn class at the gym but I'm just so disheartened

I'm actually considering 3 slimfast shakes a day and no food, to try and kick start something

OP posts:
Littlepumpkinpie · 20/07/2018 19:17

How tall are you OP ? Please don’t use rubbish like slim fast. You need proper food protein, carbs, good Fats and plenty of veggies. Not process crap

AssassinatedBeauty · 20/07/2018 19:20

I'd stick with proper food for now. If you're running a calorie deficit for 3 months and not losing weight then it seems likely that something is happening that your GP can investigate.

Has your shape changed at all from the exercise? Do you feel fitter/stronger?

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 20:06

I'm 5'5 and 13stone 😳
I'm probably the fittest I've ever been since leaving school.
I'm not underestimating calories and I'm definitely not drinking calories.
I've got people IRL giving so much conflicting advice.
I'm eating to little
Low carb only
Ect ect

OP posts:
AssassinatedBeauty · 20/07/2018 20:10

I would try to be happy/proud of your increase in fitness, and then see what the GP has to say. To have a large calorie deficit for 3 months and not lose anything at all seems like there could be something else going on.

Boulshired · 20/07/2018 22:07

I gained around two stones in the beginning of menopause without eating the usual junk that causes my weight gain. I also gained on my stomach when in the past it was always my arse. I did the gp visits after trying all sorts of diets. I had to throw the scales away and rely on my jeans. A couple of years later at a smear test I was weighed again and had lost nearly all the weight.

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 22:23

Did it just naturally drop off?
I will definitely mention my weight at my appointment in a few weeks.

OP posts:
GinisLife · 20/07/2018 22:32

I feel your pain. I'm exactly the same. I know I can eat crap but I do think on the whole I'm not too bad food wise yet I lose nothing. I have a PT twice a week and I'm sure she thinks I dont tell her all I eat because I lose nothing. I trained to run a half marathon 4 years ago and was running 20 miles a week and didn't lose an ounce. Depressing.

mycatplotsdeath · 20/07/2018 23:06

It is definitely depressing

OP posts:
Lynne1Cat · 20/07/2018 23:10

Cut the calories down to 1000 or less. Like you, I've put on 3 stone since the menopause (I'm 59 and was having periods until last October), and it's all on my waist and stomach.

I've just started Slimfast twice a day and a proper meal at night.

Strongbeatsskinny · 21/07/2018 05:51

What’s your macros split meaning how much weighed protein, carbs and fats are you eating daily.

Give a typical days intake
