How do I face weighing myself?

I'm embarking on a plan to lose a stone in the short term and two stones by Christmas. I have no idea how much I weigh, I reckon I'm 3 stone overweight.

I can't bring myself to do it though. Can I do the first month then weigh after? I do well calorie counting on MFP so that's my plan.

Don't bother imo. I never weigh myself, I find I get a bit too obsessed. A tape measure and an outfit of my target size works much better than the fluctuations of the scales which can put a damper on the day.

I don't weigh myself at all I find it upsetting

SlightAggrandising · 15/07/2018 17:58

@gamerchick what do you measure? Waist?

Would taking inch measurements instead help? Personally (and I'm a yo-yo dieter so have been in this place more than once) whilst the first weigh in does suck, your weight loss in the beginning will be at a faster rate than when you are a month in - and loosing a good few pounds in the first few weeks I find very motivating.
But in the end you don't ever have to weigh yourself if you don't want to - if you are sticking to your diet you will see results and be healthier for it, does it matter if you know to the lb what you weigh?

Just waist and hips. The rest sorts itself out.

If you are trying to lose weight, you'll really want to know what you are starting with. Just take a deep breath, step on the scales and tell yourself you will never be this weight again.

I think I'm worried it will tip me into overeating which is a coping strategy of mine when I encounter something stressful.

slight I get that! I feel exactly the same!

I do better watching scales rather than measuring... it the psychological part. Seeing the scales move downwards. But I know I've put on at least a stone since stopping SW

caffeineheadache · 15/07/2018 18:27

Do you understand kg? I was in exactly the same position as you, I didn't want to know how much i weigh but I did want to know if I was losing, so I changed my scales to kg! Job done, I know I'm losing weight and I have never googled how many stones I actually am... Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 15/07/2018 18:29

I do the weighing in kg thing too. I have no emotional reaction to my weight in kg, it is just a number.

SlightAggrandising · 15/07/2018 18:43

I do kg but I could change it to lb... that might help.

It's kind of nice to know it's not just me but also a little saddening.

Yes I do kg too!! Lessens the trauma a bit

Changing to lbs might be good. Never weighed like that before

SlightAggrandising · 15/07/2018 18:54

Done. Changed to lb. will weigh in the morning and there we go!

Fucking frustrates me as I'm a proper fucking boss in my work life but I can't make my brain behave in this aspect of my life. Agh.
