Morbidly obese

I was weighed yesterday at a medical assessment, and despite my best head in the sand attitude, I am now a BMI of 40.1, with a body fat percentage of over 50% and am morbidly obese.

How have any of you changed your attitude to food? I'm a dreadful emotional eater.

Did anyone find counselling or therapy helped? Am happy to pay privately for this. Any other suggestions?

I guess it's back to Slimming World....

What is your diet and portion control like when you aren’t feeling emotional? Counselling could definitely help to get to the root cause of the emotional issues, and maybe something like CBT could teach you distraction techniques to stop you binging.
I lost almost 5 stone but I had to do it slowly over 2 years. The crash diets or really restrictive diets didn’t work for me at all, and even though I lost weight on them i’d End up feeling miserable and exhausted and would pile it back on again.
The mantra I would tell myself every day is “it’s better to have a year or so of hard work to lose the weight, than a lifetime of being obese”.
Do you do any exercise? Getting a Fitbit helped me to walk loads.
Losing even just 2 pounds per month (or half a pound a week) is an almost 2 stone weight loss per year.

The best advice I can offer is to concentrate on your health not your weight. Put nutritious food in your body in reasonable quantities.
If you are morbidly obese you will quite probably have health issues which need addressing quickly, like hypertension and metabolic syndrome. Take good care of yourself and the weight will inevitably start to come off.
Read the Blood Sugar Diet by Michael Moseley too. It’s an eye opener.

My diet is genuinely crap and a glass or two of alcohol is imbibed on too many nights a week.

I have that book, but haven't read it. I Aldi have the 5:2 diet book, but haven't read that either. I don't think I want to do that one, as it requires planning and I have a job where I am away a lot so don't have access to a kitchen or a fridge for a week at a time which is restricting (hotels).

Will rejoin the gym this weekend and get back in the pool. That's always good for me.

@Frosty66612 2lbs a month. Great point. I need to lose 5.5 stone to be a size 16 and under 30 BMI (just).

8.5 stone to be a healthy weight.

It could take you 4 years to lose 8 stone at just 2 pounds loss per month. Might seem like a long time but it’s not really in the grand scheme of things. And you are much more likely to then keep it off forever if you do it gadually and healthily. I bet even just cutting the alcohol out mon-Thur and cutting out a couple of your daily snacks you could lose half a pound a week (and also swimming and walking will really help)

Absolutely. I've been in huge denial for 4 years. I could have had this sorted by now! Food for thought. As it were.

Thank you.
