Looking for some help. I'm really struggling to lose weight. Infact I'm scunnering myself. Every night I say I will start tomorrow but never do. I think cutting back on carbs would help as I really do stuff me to think of any meal (no matter what time of the day) withought carbs. I am currently 11stone 9 and 5ft 9. I have always struggled with weight went up and down since I was very young. I really want yo lose arpund a stone, but I want to be healthy about it as I really haven't been in the past. Could anyone give me some tips for low carb meals and snacks that are easy and quick?

Come and join us on the low carb boot camp thread. It’s in the weight loss group of message boards. We’re in week 7 at the moment but people join in all the time and the thread continues after the end of the boot camp to the beginning of the next.

Heaps of advice and support.

Low carb diets do work initially but I don't think it's a lifestyle change you can feasibly make. As soon as you eat some carbs after the diet you will just put weight on for fun.

I always say the best way is to have a balanced lifestyle choice when it comes to food, everyone is different.
Some people like 1/3 protein 1/3 fat 1/3 carbs on a plate every meal. Some people like 1/4 protein 1/2 veg 1/8 fat 1/8 carbs.

Actually this is something I am quite conceded about. My partner did a very low carb diet, he lost a lot of weight pretty fast but couldn't keep it up as it was so restricting and he put the weight back on. Perhaps I just need to rethink other aspects of my diet before cutting carbs.

Intermittent fasting is good. However, there's nothing special about it, it's just a way of controlling calorie consumption. It is very good in that you don't have to sacrifice any food group as long as the numbers work.

Timeisslippingaway · 25/06/2018 22:34

WatermelonGlitter,
That is something I have just read up on tonight. It might suit me better actually. Has anyone got any tips for fasting days?

I did intermittent fasting for a few weeks but I couldn't keep it up because of my active job I was starving and lethargic by 1030am.

You can change the timing . I used to do 8pm at night until 12pm (so 8 hours eating and 16 hours fasting) and I did lose a lot of weight in the few weeks.

It controls your insulin sensitivity as you're eating all your calories in a small amount of time so it can't go up and down constantly

WatermelonGlitter · 25/06/2018 23:19

Time, if you are on Facebook there are a lot of 5:2 pages which are very helpful. 5:2 Is probably the easiest form. My tip is soup. If you choose wisely you can have two tins of soup for 300 cals ish, which is very filling.

Timeisslippingaway · 25/06/2018 23:21

Thanks for the tip. I think I will try this as I have quite an active job also and need to have my head screwed on and be pretty alert. I'll give the 16 hours fasting a go first I think.

At that height and weight you’re not actually overweight at all

Cut out sugar and white carbs? Not quite as restrictive

Timeisslippingaway · 26/06/2018 08:53

I struggle with cutting out sugar 😂 I really need to try harder. I think my biggest problem is portion sizes. Also I tend to get hungry quite quickly after eating, especially in the morning. I just want to feel more comfortable in clothes and I need to tone up.

I'm doing 1000 cals a day just now..it's enough that I don't feel hungry too much, but still gives me a good deficit. Eating things like porridge and scrambled eggs made with almond milk (a godsend, some are only 24 cals for 200 ml). I've lost a bit already and I don't feel bad. We shall see if it continues (my willpower that is).

You could come and join us on our blood sugar diet thread.

Blood Sugar Diet thread 11 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/fasting_diet/3267071-blood-sugar-diet-thread-11

We don’t count carbs but we do cut out the big 5 nasties (bread, pasta, potatoes, grains, sugar) and reduce calories (although not actually as low as people believe, there are options for Low calorie, 5:2, or even no counting plans) and it’s an 8 week plan to start with. Some of our current followers have lost 2-3 stones in 8 weeks. I’ve gone from a 14 to an 8 since January.

Giving up sugar and reducing carbs has honestly been the most significant positive health change I have ever made, it’s totally changed my life. I won’t lie and say it’s easy, but it’s not as tough as you might think.

NotMeNoNo · 26/06/2018 13:51

I've been low carbing for six months, lost and kept off two stone using the Blood Sugar diet.

Breakfast - yoghurt and berries, scrambled eggs
Lunch - salad without carbs but often with beans. Or a chunky soup
Dinner - omelettes, meat with extra veg, stir fry or pasta type dishes with courgette instead of pasta.
Snacks - nuts, bit of cheese. but ideally don't snack too much.
I'm maintaining now so I do have the odd couple of slices toast or cheeky biscuit but nothing like I used to. On this diet I don't get the starving feeling 2 hours after a meal.

I don't find it that restricting but TBH it's only restricting because most of the available food everywhere is so crappy. For instance I just went out for lunch from the office and I know there are only 2 or 3 prepacked salads that I will eat - I had Pret Tuna Nicoise with half the dressing.

Timeisslippingaway · 26/06/2018 18:28

Thanks for the tips everyone. It really is willpower I need to work on I think and planning ahead with meals.
