I recently bought a dress in an American size 8 thinking it would fit a size 12 uk.
Sadly not.
I am in the high 10 stone mark after losing a stone and was pleased to be 12. So how much more to lose before being a size 10?
The measurements are 36,28,38 that I only found out afterwards. I am currently 37,32,38. Think it's doable and how long?
I have never ever been a size 10 and even playing competing sport I was 10 stone never in the 9's.

Yes, Ypsilanti, I never got to a size 10, even on the 3 days I made it to 8 stone!

SnackSnackEatAndCrave · 16/06/2018 21:42

I'm 5'3 and a size 10 at 10stone. 32GG which probably adds to the weight! But I've never weighed less than 9st 8lbs in the last 10 years, and still always been a 10

chatterbox54 · 16/06/2018 22:37

i am 5 foot 6 and 9 stone 9. I am between a 12 and a 10. I have a size 10 dress that I can wear but it is a bit tight but still wearable

beela · 17/06/2018 13:29

I am 5'3 and a half, and a size 10 at 9.5 stone.

As pp have said though, it depends on your body shape, what style you are buying, and (mainly) what shop you are buying from.

LeGrandeDame · 17/06/2018 19:28

Thanks everyone.

I realise that label sizing and bodies are variable even if it says 10.
I did actually put in the exact measurements of me and the dress I want to fit into.

Maybe I worded it wrong. What weight are you if you can fit into a 36,28,38 dress please.

I'm 5'4". For decades I was size 10-12 and weighed 9st 4.

Mumblechum0 · 17/06/2018 19:39

I'm 5.4 and weigh 9st 8, and most of my clothes are 10 (or 8 in Next)

AlbertaSimmons · 17/06/2018 19:40

5ft 4, 8 st 11lb, size 8.

Thundersky · 17/06/2018 22:26

5 ft 3. 9st 4. Size 12. Thin legs but flabby body here.

halfwitpicker · 18/06/2018 02:28

I'm a size ten and 5'4. I weigh 140 pounds aka ten stone.

halfwitpicker · 18/06/2018 02:30

FWIW I live abroad just got size 6 skinny black jeans from Gap and they fit perfectly.

Octopus37 · 18/06/2018 07:11

I am about 9st 2 a the moment (five pounds down yay) and 5ft5 tall. I need a size 12 in skirts and trousers, but can get away with a 10 in dresses and tops (unless they are very fitted). Measurements are 30E-29-28 For me if I had carried on gaining weight and got up to 10 stone, that would have probably made me a size 14. To get down to a size 10 properly think I will need to get down to just over 8 and a half stone. If I wanted to get down to a size 8 would need to be 8stone at the most, although would get in an 8 in vanity shops. If I wanted to be a 6 (think it would be impossible), I would have to get down to about 7st7 (haven't ever been that small so that is guesswork)

Octopus37 · 18/06/2018 07:12

Sorry hip measurement is 38 obviously.

DinoSn0re · 18/06/2018 07:18

I need to be 9 - 9.5 stone to fit comfortably into size 10 trousers and tops. At that weight my bust is around a 30F.

beela · 18/06/2018 07:49

Op, I just measured and I am 36 28 38, so the same as your dress. I weigh 61.5kg and am just under 5'4.

lljkk · 20/06/2018 20:45

DD is 36-27-37. She says she's size 8 but I reckon she's size 10.
I am 38-28ish-38. I prefer size 14-16 for tops due to broad shoulders, but often size 10 for bottom.

Shadowboy · 20/06/2018 20:49

I am 5’4 and in a size 10 in jack wills, Boden etc but an 8 in Joules. I weigh 62kg (10stone) I used to be 57kg before I had kids. One day I’ll be back to that!

blackteaplease · 20/06/2018 20:49

I'm the same height and weight as you and am a 12. Before economic I was 9 stone 7 and a size 10. It's too hard to maintain now.

Can you sell the dress and buy again in a bigger size?

QforCucumber · 20/06/2018 20:59

I was intrugued so just measured, im 5ft 5in. Weigh 10st 10lbs and wear a 10/12 and 30g bra. My measurements are 38/30/38 .

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 20/06/2018 21:16

I’m 5’8” and wore mainly size 10s when I was a few lbs under 9 and a half stone. I still had to buy a good few size 12s too though - just depended on the shop / garment.

When I was 10 stone, I wore mainly 12s, plus the odd 14. My wedding dress was a 14 and I was 10 stone when I got married. It had been taken in a bit though. That said, I wore two size 10 dresses at my brother’s wedding, when I was 10 and a half stone .

I’m now 11 and a half stone (post dc2) and wear mainly 14s, but some 12s and 16s too.

I’m quite apple shaped fwiw. I think if I was a pear or hour glass, I might be able to wear an a line or kick flare dress in a smaller size, but I can’t have anything clinging round my tummy. I had a cesarian a few months ago, so that hasn’t helped!

I don’t know what my measurements are, but I normally wear 34FF bras and have a 32” waist.

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 20/06/2018 21:52

I'm 5'5, 9 stone and a size 10. I would wear an 8 from stores that fit larger like the gap, M&S and next.

Thebluedog · 20/06/2018 21:57

I’m 5’3.5” and when I was a size 10 I weighed just over 9 stone

LemonysSnicket · 20/06/2018 22:19

I'm an 8 at 9stone, 5'4 - 32,26,33.
So probably 9stone 5?
