Considering doing yoga at "my size"

Just that really!
I have 5 weeks off work and was thinking about enrolling in a yoga class. However in size 22 and worrying that I'm going to a. Look stupid b. Be the biggest person there c. Have everyone laugh as I walk in the room d. Fail miserably and never want to attend the gym again!

Does anyone else do yoga as a plus size?

I used to and was more flexible than the skinny women there. No one laughed. Yoga is all about working at your own pace anyway.
I want to get back into it but have to find a class that fits round work.

Yoga isnt about judgement. Go for it.

Have you looked online at plus size yogis, Jessamyne etc? There are loads, and loads of plus sized teachers too, My first ever yoga teacher was plus size. I'm overweight - biggets in my yoga class, but still go and love it. Just find a class where the teacher expects each student to take it at their own pace. Avoid competitive gym bunny yoga classes.

I’m a yoga teacher, myself & other teachers I know love to have different shapes and sizes in our classes! Look for someone with plenty of experience and by all means contact them beforehand to outline your concerns, students do this all the time & any teacher worth their salt should be happy to chat & and reassure you/ discuss any modifications.
Probably best to go for a class described as hatha/gentle/ basic to begin with.
Enjoy!!

I'm a size 20 and do yoga.
I do it with a personal trainer/yoga teacher with a small studio - space for up to 4.
It's my lack of balance where I occasionally feel out of place rather than size.
There's a couple of moves where I can't do deep breathing because my stomach is compressing my lungs, but otherwise my size isn't an issue.

The class is Hatha Yoga although I'm not sure what that means! I just can't bear the thought of walking into the class and it being full of skinny yoga bunnies and me falling over and farting or something equally as embarrassing 😂. It's a class at my local council run leisure centre so not sure if I would be able to speak to the instructor?

My mate teaches yoga and she’s bigger than you! (And very bendy).

I'm not a size 22, however I do go to yoga regularly. There are people there of all shapes and sizes. It's a lovely community and I've never ever felt like anyone is judging anyone. You work at your own pace and can just sit and relax or lay on your back if you are struggling. Again, nobody judges for this. Yoga is for everyone Smile

This year, aged 61, I have started spin, bootcamp and weight lifting classes. I rather assumed I would be the oldest and least fit member of each class but surprisingly not. There is a great camaraderie in my classes and my self esteem and confidence has really come on. In our leisure centre yoga classes there are all shapes ages and sizes, don't worry you will be fine.

Give it a try. Local council run sounds like it should be a mixed bunch of students with any luck. But if it isn't, keep looking, as there may be other classes nearby. I really love yoga, even though like Bumply I struggle with some moves due to having too much fat in the way for the bones to get into the best alignment. But it make sme feel toned and stretched and helps with good posture. And it really strengthens your body. I now use my body far more flexibly and dyanmically than I used to.
