Help me at this barbecue

I am new to dieting. I am on holiday in three weeks, and started the diet a week ago, I lost two pounds last week so its working. I stuck to 1500 calories (I don't eat breakfast or lunch so have most cals at dinner) and did 4 nights of one hour cardio/ weight training bootcamp.

So today I'm going to a barbecue, I just can't get excited about it. I love barbecues and at this friends house I would normally have a burger (cheese, sauce etc), couple of sausages, chicken breast plus either fish or steak, also salad and a jacket potato. Plus several glasses of prosecco.

I do want to lose weight this week but I want to have my usual barbecue binge. I'm thinking I could maybe have 2700 calories today, and tomorrow basically fast, drink water and have a 300 calorie dinner. Do you think that would keep my weight loss on track? Or does it not work like that?

You cannot have your cake and eat it. If you want to loose weight don’t binge at the bbq.

Go and enjoy a burger and a little bit of chicken. That should satisfy a meat craving and still seem like a treat being double the amount of meat in a normal meal.

You don't want to feel you're depriving yourself but I have to say that the list of what you would normally eat at a BBQ is massively excessive!

I understand where you're coming from because I used to eat like that. Now I still enjoy meat, carbs and chocolate or cake every single day just never to excessive proportions. I don't have to diet now and always enjoy what I eat so I always order from the menu what I fancy and never deprive myself and my weight has stabilised. Much happier and healthier as a result.

Here’s your first problem with dieting, dieting is a mental mind change, you need to embrace it. You’ve probably put weight on from bingeing, but now you want to diet by being restrictive. You seriously need to change your eating habits or you’re going to have health problems and dips in blood sugar. Starving yourself all day, so you can have a massive dinner and all your calories is one go is not sustainable.

Forget the bbq binge, go but look at the options. Get yourself informed because If you think all of that food and alcohol is only 2700 you’re severely underestimating your intake. A glass of prosecco is approx 80 calories, pub measure guide.

I recommend my fitness pal, start logging what you eat, and seriously do some research about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

You are all right, I really need to change my overall outlook but it's times like today where the old habits kick in. And this

You cannot have your cake and eat it. If you want to loose weight don’t binge at the bbq

This is the but I struggle with. I'm constantly looking for ways to "cheat" I have always been a binger but have managed not to gain too much weight as I'm also able to eat very little at other times. I know that's probably not healthy

You'd probably find it much easier to lose weight if you are at least 3 meals split across the day rather than 1 big meal at the end of the day... however I realise that will be a big shift. It would help you not be so hungry when you went to the bbq so you could eat in moderation and enjoy It more...

I doubt anyone is still reading but I stuck to my 1500 at the barbecue (500 on prosecco 😀) and at my weigh in this morning I've lost five pounds in two weeks, so pleased I didn't cave as I know it would have affected next weeks results!

Thanks for the motivation 😀

Well done!!!

ReturnofSaturn · 24/05/2018 00:47

Holy shit would you really eat all that at a bbq normally!? Thats insane.

killinginthenameof · 24/05/2018 18:59

return I know it's really bad, yes that is what I would usually eat BlushThe only reason I'm only overweight rather than morbidly obese is due to regular fasting. I have a huge appetite, always have.
