Need to lose 13 stone

kezzy13 · 11/05/2018 20:58

I currently weigh 25 stone and need to lose at least 13 of them.

I don't know how!

I've tried all diet clubs etc.

Have a serious coke addiction (fizzy kind Grin)

And I eat very little in the way of traditional 'healthy food'

Think I just need a kick up the ass and am hoping this is the place to get it.

13 stone is a lot to loose and you are unlikely to succeed without help. Have you considered surgical options?

calzone · 13/05/2018 15:09

@kezzy13 what sort of things do you eat in a day?

Maybe we can help you make some headway with your weight loss.

I do think SW would be good for you as there are lots of unlimited foods you can have.

Can you cook? Who does the cooking your house? You or your partner? Have you got support at home?

userxx · 13/05/2018 20:20

@Teateaandmoretea the problem is a lot of the people who SW is aimed at won't cook from scratch, they have absolutely no idea whatsoever about nutrition.

One of my friends is doing it at the moment and the shit she is eating is scary. SW burgers and chips about 4 times a week but as long as she's paying her £5 to be told she's lost a pound she's happy. I could cry. 🙈

fezzesarecool · 16/05/2018 20:44

Just wondering how it’s going?

If it’s any help I found getting on and starting small changes helped me rather than planning everything out first and then every week I chose a new goal to do eg more veg or cutting down to one takeaway

kezzy13 · 21/05/2018 14:58

Thanks for all your comments.

I have swapped coke for Pepsi max, maybe not ideal but a start. Treated myself to a sugary coke today and it was bloody horrible!!

Have also downloaded my fitness pal and finding it really helpful.

Great start! The little changes really do add up and especially as it’s a hard change as it’s you fave type of junk.

I found that mfp was really good at educating me about portion control and how to allow some unhealthy foods in when I was craving. (Swapped pizza for a pizza baguette which is less calories and actually more filling)

Funny you saying that about taste. I had a Greggs sausage roll a few weeks back and it wasn’t nice at all and a total waste of my calories!

Have you thought of trying to get a bit of exercise in? m.youtube.com/watch?v=KCe3ZS7pAC4

This ones a good way to get started, it’s 15mins and a 1 mile walk with a few kicks and leg lifts through in. I used only be able to do the walking part. Just a thought for whenever you think to get started. A bonus for me is that when you’re bigger you actually burn more calories doing exercise compared to someone smaller.

Please keep updating.

withsexypantsandasausagedog · 21/05/2018 16:58

I think you need to tell yourself that the 13 stone didn't get put on over a few weeks/ months so don't try and lose it in such a short space of time. It is far better and easier to just make small changes.

Small changes you could try (sorry if these are obvious!)
Try to snack on fruit or veg, and put more veg into meals.

Switch to high fibre or wholemeal varieties of bread, pasta and brown rice.

Try to drink more - no added sugar squash from Sainsbury's is good as it doesn't have artificial sweetners in. This might help you feel fuller. - Also I think someone has mentioned it before but diet fizz has artificial sweetners in that tend to make you crave sugar!

Try to take more steps (ie take stairs rather than escalator)

And - if you have have a moment of weakness, that is fine! I think the reason people who diet fail is that it is too strict, then they cave and eat something 'naughty' then say, oh what the hell I have ruined it now so I may as well have more ice cream/cake etc.

good luck!

notapizzaeater · 21/05/2018 17:01

Totally agree, it didn't appear overnight so won't disappear overnight.

Have you got a Fitbit ? Try to do a few more steps each day - my mum puts her remote next to the tv so she has a to get up to switch channels -just silly little things which all add up.

kezzy13 · 21/05/2018 17:04

notapizzaeater

I have my fitbit set to 7000 steps at the moment, have a problem with my leg where it keeps collapsing under me 25 stone pushing down on it will do that so I can't walk as much as I would like to.

Even though I'm so fat I love love walking and usually don't have a problem no matter how far I go, can easily do 10 miles.

Make healthy substitutions wherever you can - frylight instead of oil (def nothing deep fried!), sweetener instead of sugar, Zero coke instead of full fat coke, semi skimmed milk, cut right down on bread (try to allow yourself just a couple of wholemeal slices a day max) and try to make sure at least a third of your meal is veggies. And always have a good filling breakfast like poached eggs, porridge etc. And if you can try to limit treat stuff - cakes only once in a while. Don't keep biscuits in the house! And try to get out for a walk every day, gradually increasing the distance. Get a dog?? If you think of it more as a lifestyle change rather than a 'diet' it will be more achievable.

MumofBoysx2 · 21/05/2018 17:15

Helloflamingogo processed shite, really? The recipes I've used have all just been using fresh veggies and low fat mince, chicken breasts etc. Nothing processed at all!

purpleleotard · 21/05/2018 17:17

Good luck
You can do it, just persevere, it does take a long time.

kezzy13 · 21/05/2018 17:24

I can't get rid of all goodies in the house as that's not fair to my dh or ds so we have come up with a compromise where I will only buy things I don't like. We have a lot of malted milk and digestives in!

Hiya

I've been overweight by at least 10 stone all my adult life (I'm 35) and finally after completing the NHS weight management course 4x I was successful in surgery last April and have dropped 65kg in a year.

Now, before people said I cheated or could do it without spending NHS money - I do have comorbidities that hindered weight loss and I had to follow each rule exactly or be declined- that took 10yrs.

Fizzy juice is a killer for weight as it's empty calories - swap to Pepsi Max if you need it.

Do not try weight loss pills unless supervised as they can have some nasty side effects.

Much of that first weightloss will be fluids, reducing sugar, carbs and starches will help but a structured plan will defo help- will your doctor refer you to a similar weight management course?

Slimming world is apparently awesome now - haven't done it in years so not upto date.

Are potential medications stopping weight loss or actually adding it?

Feel free to message me about anything.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 21/05/2018 17:31

Def. talk to your GP, and well done for coming to this decision.

Everexpandingwaistline · 21/05/2018 17:32

Try the Dr. Michael Mosley blood sugar diet, it was originally devised to support diabetics control their cravings by regulating their blood sugar levels. Lots of people have found it helpful to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight with it.

Gazelda · 21/05/2018 17:38

I'm impressed with how much walking you're doing OP! That will certainly help with weight loss.
And I think it's great to make small changes.
What do you have for breakfast? Since changing to something high in protein (0% fat Greek yoghurt and fruit) I've found I feel full for longer.
But please speak with your GP about this. They will be able to give you support and make sure you're keeping healthy.

TheIsland · 21/05/2018 17:46

I wouldn’t think of it as 13 stone. Can you aim to lose 10lbs, then when you’ve done that, lose another 10lbs.

Can you exercise as a family? walking is great, can you add in some flights of stairs too? If you’re akready doing 10miles then you’ll have to up it, as your body will be used to what you’re alresdy doing.

kezzy13 · 21/05/2018 18:56

I will just add I don't do 10 miles every day! But 2 or 3 times a week when my leg isn't hurting.

I would go to your GP in the first instance for assessment and monitoring. Do not necessarily exclude bariatric surgery

userxx · 21/05/2018 22:20

@kezzy13 You say you can't get rid of all the "goodies" but do your husband and son really need them? Years ago my friend was saying she needed to shift a few stone, I opened one of her cupboards and my god the amount of shite was shocking, she looked aghast when I suggested binning it all, she told me she needed to have it in for her son 🙈. He is now 12 years with a weight problem of his own.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 21/05/2018 22:41

I agree about getting rid of stuff. I’ve lost 70lbs this year so far (still have a way to go!) and I don’t buy it anymore. My kids don’t miss out, my mum feeds them every cake known to man when we visit.. my DH is super fit and slim (and can eat whatever he wants) and will buy snacks outside of the house if he wants some. We are all healthier. Having grilled salmon and vegetables with water for dinner rather than massive bowl of pasta, garlic bread, cheese, wine / juice and dessert has become our new normal and for once in my life this ‘diet’ is sticking. It doesn’t feel like a diet or a big change. It just feels like success.

Honestly, once I lost enough to start hearing compliments, it became the easiest thing in the world to go to the gym and try to keep it off.

You can do it!

userxx · 21/05/2018 22:49

@MaryPoppinsPenguins well done! That's such an achievement, bet you're really proud of yourself.

mooncuplanding · 21/05/2018 22:54

Watch the Magic Pill on Netflix

It’ll help you understand how you got here (without any shame)

Then you’ll see how you fix it

It’s much more possible than you think

Raven88 · 21/05/2018 22:55

I drink Pepsi max. I've lost 2 stone. It's the one thing I allow myself. If you fancy a low cal snack try cherry tomatoes or sugar snap peas. I buy my slim DH snacks that I can't have He loves chilli but I'm allergic.
