I am trying an 8 week challenge, to reduce body fat. I exercise 6 days a week (to high intensity) and now doing the diet to compliment this (to give me muscle definition) but I can't have carbs, dairy, sugar caffeine or booze. Have survived 2 days but going through 2 weeks of this phase seems impossible. I nearly fainted in the gym. Is it possible or have a bitten off more than I can chew ! Any advice or do I just need to dig in ?

Veg and peanut butter contain carbs. A proportion of protein is converted to glucose. It is impossible to eat a completely carb-free diet, the OP is talking about avoiding starchy/simple sugars, it’s fine

HerSymphonyAndSong · 27/04/2018 07:59

However I would add more fat for energy and satiety

Bluntness100 · 27/04/2018 08:10

No carbs is fine if you’re not exercising. It suits people solely focussed on losing weight

Nonsense, I exercise for an hour to an hour and 15 mins most days, and I'm low carb. And there is no such thing as no carbs, it's nigh on impossible, it's low carb, even cucumber has carbs in it.

Honestly why post if you don't know what you're talking about?

Highhorse1981 · 27/04/2018 08:35

Goodness blunt, are you hungry?

I too work out 6x a week. PT once a week. Nutritionist 2x a year.

If you are doing HIIT and weights then you need carbs to get the most from your work out. Sure you can do it without but you won’t be operating at full capacity. A handful of green beans is not what I’m talking about.

Plain porridge
Seeded bread with peanut butter
Handful of Almonds and a few raisins

HerSymphonyAndSong · 27/04/2018 08:53

So that works for you highhorse. Other things work for other people

Onthewrongsideof30 · 27/04/2018 09:16

It was a HIIT session from hell today - 45 minutes of my heart literally bursting out of my chest. I will train like this long term, but the diet is an 8 week sting. I will be able to introduce more after 2 weeks. Then I shred for the last 2. Trying to talk my head out of having a glass of wine and as many crackers as I can shove in my mouth the instant I get home! I would do anything for a banana ......

No, I'm not hungry, if I am I eat. I just don't need to eat high carb foods..

bonnielassie1 · 27/04/2018 12:11

It’s sounds to me like you’re doing the F45 8 week challenge? I am too and I have felt so tired this morning! I have lost 5lbs this week ( I know water weight) and it is keeping me motivated! The weekend will be hard but we get sweet potato on Sunday!!! And the delicious smoothie for breakfast tomorrow Grin

halfwitpicker · 27/04/2018 13:23

Doesn't sound sustainable at all.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 27/04/2018 13:24

If it only lasts 8 weeks then presumably not designed to be sustainable

Onthewrongsideof30 · 27/04/2018 23:13

Yes it's the F45 8 week challenge. Energy zapped this morning. Did my usual run and I was 5 minutes off pace ....... I have never looked forward to sweet potato so much in my life !

Going to do Hollywood this morning and I think the extra 15 mins might kill me! Sad

Onthewrongsideof30 · 03/05/2018 08:19

@bonnielassie1 - how are you travelling ?! Wanted to die from hunger yet?

Tbh I'd get rid of the protein shake as usually quite high in sugar and calories

Depends on the quality of the powder and what you mix it with. Something like My Protein The Whey is 25g protein, 1g carbs, 1 g fat for 117 cals. Just mix with water and ice.

GooodMythicalMorning · 03/05/2018 13:47

True. You do have to be a bit wary of them though

Onthewrongsideof30 · 03/05/2018 22:35

Yip, it's a good whey protein. Not junk - I checked. Sometimes with water, sometimes with a good almond milk.
