Hello I’ve so far lost 2 stone following slimming world, and ideally would love to lose another 2 stone.

I’ve just joined a gym and I’m just wondering if anyone found about my age or older has gotten a flat stomach (not a 6 pack) and muscles in places you didn’t have before.

I’ve never had a flat stomach not even when I was younger before I had my kids, even when I was a little girl I never had a flat stomach, I always thought it was bloated looking.

I don’t have the confidence to get a personal trainer and I can’t afford it just now anyway as we ave just booked a holiday.

Thank you.

Should say I’m 47 and I’m not sure if what I’m wanting to achieve is nearly impossible at my age!

Hi OP , congratulations on your weight loss so far. I'm 45 and have maintained my weight loss now for 10 weeks. I have lost 5 1/2 stone in the previous 14 months. I joined the gym at the start and have worked with a PT throughout and this for me was a really positive decision. I learnt proper technique, learnt to challenge myself and have mad huge progress in both CV work and also strength training.

My shape and muscle tone has changed massively. I love my shoulders and can see muscles on my back moving when I work out. My stomach is nearly flat, but it is form, not flabby with muscle - although there is no 6 pack! If you do weight training rather than all cardio, it will help so much with toning e.g. deadlifts wiĺl help improve legs, bum and also your core and back. In terms of CV the rower works practically every muscle in your body - arms, legs, core, back. I did a lot of rowing - completed a half marathon in October and that has certainly improved my shoulders.

All instructors will show you a programme and just ask for weight training to be included. Mine includes a short 10 minute intense CV session e.g. sprints 30 secs flat out 30 sec rest, then about 1 hr weights covering the whole body each time. I get a new one every 10 weeks and up the weight regularly. My body would never have changed so much without the weight training. I'm still losing inches even though I'm maintaining my weight.

Good luck

Wow well done purpleguitar that is a fantastic achievement on how much you have lost.

I think a PT is the way to go, but it’s just so expensive! I was going to a circuit class, but it’s now cancelled, and it isn’t being replaced!. I was really enjoying it as it was a mix of cardio and weights, and I could see a little bit of a difference in my strength and how long I could go for without stopping. I don’t know what I’m going to do now it took me a long time to build up the confidence to go to the class. I have been to other circuit classes a couple of years ago, but a lot of it was partners and I don’t like that because I just feel so inferior and I don’t want to hold anyone back.

Maybe need to see how the funds are in a couple of weeks, and see if I can afford PT.
