What is easy but filling that can be eaten in ten minutes? No cooking or make at home

New job and have a ten minute break on my shift and would like something as substantial as possible (not a snack) that I can pre-prepare and eat in ten minutes! Any Ideas please? Either low carb, or balanced but less than 500 cals and can be eaten as is!

Do you have access to a kettle? Mugshot?

mamalovebird · 10/04/2018 22:07

Aldi 9 pack of falafel with a dip. Less than 500 cals per pack and v filling.

bkiy · 10/04/2018 22:09

I do have a kettle but tried to do that today with a naked noodle pot and by the time it had boiled and rested it was nearly down to five minutes left haha! I want the whole ten minutes to eat

I fill up one of these lunch boxes with quinoa / other grains / beans / grated carrots / veg and stuff it down. Remember to add a bit of dressing. Otherwise: bag of carrot sticks and some dip / hummus.

Salad? Couscous? Hoummous and flatbread or crudites.
Cold frittata?
Lentil soup

allthegoodnameshadgone · 10/04/2018 22:14

Have you got a microwave? Scrambled eggs?

Frittata?

Toastandjam16 · 10/04/2018 22:17

This is a bought thing obvs but I had an Asda Good & Balanced salad tonight which was 200 calories and pretty filling. You could get in some of those and add in a pitta bread or something.

RoseyOldCrow · 10/04/2018 22:18

Pre-made jacket potato with a decent filling ideally inc cheese & a salad. Blast jacket for 2 mins max, add salad, eat.
Or pasta salad (can eat hot or cold, depending on what you put in, of course)

However- 10 mins break is not enough at all, in any circumstances. You need to talk to HR.

pestilentialboundary · 10/04/2018 22:24

Breaks are meant to be 20 mins if you are working 6 hours or more, ie time for a pot noodle.

Hummus definitely. It is filling and quick to eat. I have it with Aldi's pea snacks and a spoon or my fingers!
Also Aldi do a very nice Mediterranean quinoa which I have with chicken breast and a bit of pesto.

NapQueen · 10/04/2018 22:33

Pitta bread fingers and a pot of hummus.

Northernmum100 · 10/04/2018 22:36

One of my lunchtime favourites is a small tin of lentils mixed with some tinned fish- tuna, mackerel in sweet chilli sauce etc and some chopped peppers, tomatoes, cucumber etc. Eat cold.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 11/04/2018 10:31

I love hummus but would worry about reeking of garlic....the pitta bread fingers sound lovely too.

Kirta · 11/04/2018 10:41

Have you got a good flask? You can whack all sorts in one of them and it'll be ready to eat!

Kirta · 11/04/2018 10:41

Food*

cardoon · 11/04/2018 14:01

2 x hard boiled eggs

Peanutbuttercups21 · 11/04/2018 15:28

Pasta salad, rice salad, potato salad, sandwich with tuna-mayo and salad

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 11/04/2018 15:31

Wholemeal pitta dipped in houmous.

If must be low carb then swop pitta for veg and have nuts too. Very easy to fill up on nuts quickly!

snewsname · 11/04/2018 15:35

Bruschetta.
Pre toast some sour dough bread (or do it at work) and add on pre made topping

Chopped tomatoes, chopped red onions, a pinch of dried oregano and olive oil infused with basil (most supermarkets do it) and basil leaves. You can add frozen chopped garlic but I don't always bother adding it as I don't want to stink of garlic. You can also add pesto on top but taking a jar of that is more faff. I do a few days worth at a time.

I have huel which is a shake! It sounds awful and most people recoil but it's easy, filling, has all the nutrients and works out less than £1.50 per 'meal'. If you've got 10mins it's hard to enjoy a rushed meal. Also it takes the guess work out of planning meals, it's become my routine. It's not for everyone, like I say, lots of people think I'm crazy but it works for meSmile
