Yes, I did it. Don't do it!
It is not inly harder than it looks, I was so weak! I never suffer headaches, yet I was blinded by them.
I did lose the weight. However, even only eating 900 calories a day for 3 days after my weight went straight back on.

The only way I lost weight and maintained it is to actually change my life. No diets. Just smaller portions, balance and exercise.

llmb · 03/04/2018 08:17

That’s what I was worried about. I get shakey and headachy just missing breakfast so wasn’t sure how I would do. Why is there so much toast on there? Toast (all bread) really bloats me and I eat low carb for that reason. I’m eating a 500 calorie deficit but I’m still not losing weight... I just can’t shift the half stone, I put 3 lbs on over the weekend. Yes I ate an Easter egg and had a glass of wine but for 2 weeks before I was fine yet still putting it on not losing ..

It is dry toast so you get the carbs you need but with no butter/marg. the grapefruit basically burn any fat that has been consumed.
I have lost weight drinking slimfast and only eat when I am hungry.
I am rubbish at eating breakfast and lunch. By tea time I am starving and eat a huge portion plus a ton of biscuits.
I now force myself to drink a slimfast shake for breakfast and lunch. I will have a banana at about 3ish then eat what I want at tea time, as I am not as hungry my portion size is much less. This is the only thing that has worked for me.
I have been told this diet has been has been used in hospitals for those who are in need of an operation but are too overweight. If that is true you have to think if they are in hospital they will be in the bed not doing much all day, not going to work or doing housework or looking after kids, so they will not be burning the few calories that they are eating.

It was great to see the scales change so fast however, I was so poorly I was unable to function as a mother/human being! I was tired, blinded by headaches, starving and after the week I ate a small amount and I vomited it back up. I gained all the weight back on and became really down about it.

HarryLovesDraco · 03/04/2018 08:54

You won't lose half a stone anyway you may lose 3lbs of fat, but the rest will be water. Much better to cut calories more realistically and lose your 3lb in 2 weeks rather than have one totally miserable week!

HarryLovesDraco · 03/04/2018 08:55

the grapefruit basically burn any fat that has been consumed
Hmm

llmb · 03/04/2018 08:58

Sounds awful skippy that’s my concern. May have to find another use for all the grapefruit I now have... Grin

I did do slim fast, but don’t find them stop me being hungry. So it was fine for breakfast but not for lunch. I bought a package they do, I think a weeks worth? It had meal replacement bars etc which were nice but there was so much sugar in it all plus the meal bars left me with a bloated belly! I just want to shift the half stone. I used to maintain my weight with no bother, just being mindful but it just won’t go. It hasn’t crept on, just appeared now won’t bugger off!

skippykips · 03/04/2018 09:34

@HarryLovesDraco is that wrong?
This is what I was told.

llmb · 03/04/2018 09:54

Sorry harry didn’t see your post. My bmr is 1395 I think it was, so if I’m burning 2000 calories a day I need to have a 500 calorie deficit of 2000 or a 500 calorie deficit from 1395? Surely not the latter as 900 calories a day is ridiculous?!

OP posts:
HarryLovesDraco · 03/04/2018 09:55

Yes it's wrong! Grapefruit doesn't burn fat, food doesn't burn fat.

HarryLovesDraco · 03/04/2018 09:55

You need 500 cals deficit from your TDEE not your BMR

llmb · 03/04/2018 10:03

My maintenance is 1695 and under ‘cutting’ it says 1295... still quite low but I guess that’s what I need to cut down to? Iv been eating about 1400 a day but have still not lost any...

Or am I completely on the wrong page?

I have just looked it up. I stand corrected. Shows that you shouldn't believe everything that you are told!

This diet is very similar to the Scarsdale diet which was really popular in the 70's. People followed it for a few weeks when they put on weight or to keep themselves in check.
I did it a couple of years ago, well the actual Scarsdale diet is more that you just eat meat and veg for 2 weeks only, toast in the morning and tea and coffee with no milk whenever you like. Its about avoiding alcohol, dairy and fat for 2 weeks. Then maintaining a healthy diet after that.
After the 2 weeks you then introduce other food stuff and alcohol.

It did work actually and I am about to embark on it again as some trousers I ordered today from M&S don't fit and I'm a size 16 so I need to take action.

Here are a couple of links to the Scarsdale Diet, which is pretty much what I did last time.

If you are vegetarian (or don't want to eat so much meat) then you can have a baked potato with low fat cottage cheese for a main meal, I did this a lot.

Tantpoke · 03/04/2018 11:19

I get very shaky and dizzy if I don't eat properly, I was told by a dietician once that for me personally she recommended the GI:Diet (whilst not wanting to advocate a faddy diet she felt this would help my requirements)

I am a healthy eater but nevertheless never seem to actually lose the weight I want to and don't diet per se. I probably have too large portions and snack when my sugar levels drop and certainly dont exercise enough, I do walk miles though every week.

In fact I did learn that for me when my sugar levels drop a bowl of bran flakes is perfect for filling me up and stopping dizziness. However this does get boring after a while and yes I really need to buy some branflakes again Easter Grin

PeterRarebit · 03/04/2018 11:25

I've done it. It was hard but mainly because it was so boring (I did the veggie version). I lost a bit of weight across the week but by Day 8 the total weight loss was 0.4kg so not a great success. I don't really know why I didn't lose weight but it was the same trying to get off the last few kgs. I followed it to the letter but I suppose the lower calorie intake needs to be sustained over a longer period of time to actually make a difference if your calorie needs are low to start with.

Tantpoke · 03/04/2018 11:34

I did it to the letter for a month and it helped kick start me back into being aware of trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

It's always hard but I havent put on weight since at least, but I'm just not losing it either.

I'm in a current cycle of being too tired to exercise properly, just the walking for me.

Easter hasn't helped but there is no way I'm not eating nice food and drinking alcohol when its around me, which I think is why the Scarsdale Diet can be useful when you have had excessive moments.

llmb · 03/04/2018 11:40

I’m vegetarian so was going to swap the meat for quorn but don’t think it’s the same... if I had one slice of bare toast and a tomato for breakfast and just fruit for lunch I know By 3pm I would probably break it and eat something!

OP posts:
Tantpoke · 03/04/2018 11:50

I remember being starving hungry the first 3 days and going to bed with a rumbly tummy but then it passed and was ok.

I took in a chicken salad virtually everyday at the time to work.
In hind sight I should have taken in a potato to microwave and cottage cheese, but I ate those at home instead.
It's a very boring diet those first 2 weeks so it's very exciting when you get to have your one glass of wine a night after that and can add milk to your tea. (I would never not add milk to my tea now, I add a tiny dash, just so that my teeth wont get stained from the direct tanin)

If you're at work and flagging then go with a bowl of branflakes if you are about to pass out then reach for a glass of orange or apple juice.

Tantpoke · 03/04/2018 11:54

The scarsdale is more realistic I guess than the diet in your original post OP.

In fact no fruit for the first 2 weeks due to the sugar content which allows for more filling food at least as opposed to just fruit for lunch which would play havoc on your bowels.
