Pre diabetic - advice needed

Gemi33 · 18/03/2018 08:47

Hi everyone

I am feeling really miserable. I have been putting on weight for ages and I'm now huge and feel terrible about myself. I have tried so many diets and despite feeling really terrible and being desperate to lose weight I just seem to have no motivation.

I have recently been told I am pre diabetic following a test for something else at my doctors. I have been told that I am being referred to a diabetes prevention programme but this could take a month or so and I haven't been told anything else. I don't know what I should be eating, what I should be avoiding, what diets are the best to follow....

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice??

xx

Look at the Blood Sugar diet by michael mosley or the low carb high fat diet info as they will both help enormously. I think it is possible to turn pre diabetes around with the right diet.

Ketogenic diet will reverse type 2

I got told i was pre-diabetic in December following blood tests for another issue.

Since then i've lost 10kgs using myfitnesspal to log caleries and using a lot of hairy dieters recipes as they are really tasty and started running again. DH has done it with me as he was also overweight but not pre-diabetic.

I've had to change my eating pattern and realise this has to be permanent as i can't go back to eating loads of bread and other carbs etc otherwise i'll just put the weight back on. Mainly i have cut down on carbs as they are bad for blood sugar.

It is possible though and i've now signed up for a half marathon whixh i would never have thought possible before.

I'd also second low carb diets, they are known to reverse it. Have a look at the low carb forum.

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually have a copy of the 8 week blood sugar diet so will have a look at that. Well done to those of you who have made such positive changes,

xx

Low-carb and some exercise is what you want. Regular walking is good, especially after a meal. 2 walks of 10 minutes each is better than 1 walk of 20 minutes. There is lots of information on www.diabetes.co.uk on living low-carb. Good luck.

First of all, rather than beating yourself up about it look at the positives- pre diabetes is a wake up call and luckily is reversible. Accept that it's happened now and all you can do is do the right things to change it- but it's in your power and is achievable! The blood sugar diet sounds like a good plan, or low carb. I never knew much about diabetes until a close friend was diagnosed and I was shocked to realise that carbs are actually sugar- I thought people with type 2 diabetes were total sugar fiends and that's how they became diabetic! There's a ton of helpful resources both on the low carb page on here and on the diabetes.co.uk website which will help you on your way.

Good luck OP, i won't lie and say it will be easy however with the right mindset it's achievable and you can do it. x
