How to stop snacking!

noitsachicken · 09/03/2018 13:03

Any ideas? Magic cures?
I eat too many biscuits and snack on crap when I am at home, how do I stop?
I am home a lot with the children and crave sugar.
Has anybody successfully stopped snacking?

Thanks

Firstly, try to make sure there aren't any biscuits/crisps/crap in your house! Easier said than done, I know, especially with kids.
Don't stop snacking altogether. Just aim to stop grazing. One snack mid morning and another mid afternoon. Go for protein and slow-energy release like dried apricots, raisins, nuts and chicken breast chunks. These will minimise hunger and sugar cravings.
Distract yourself. If you find you nibble when watching tv, for example, do the ironing while you watch.
Reward yourself when you don't graze. E.g. Buy a magazine if you manage a day without doing it and perhaps get a box set if you manage a whole week!
Exercise regularly. I find that keeping active actually reduces my food cravings.

Don't buy snacks. Simple. Have fruit and veg for the DCs.
I do a 'nothing to eat after 4pm'. If I am very hungry I'll have a cuppasoup, made into two mugs or a low cal hot chocolate. Ok, it's not all that healthy but you get used to it. If I have one or two biscuits or a packet of crisps I'll feel off-the-scales hungry so I have to go without
I eat a cooked breakfast or lunch.

Go cold turkey except for one or two set days a week (weekends?). It’s hard but then it gets easier. Mark whether you’ve snacked or not each day as it’s easier to say no when you have to hold yourself to account.

I also find sipping water and munching on vegetable crudités helps with the need to put something in my mouth! I still snack but this reduces it.

If you cut out sugary foods you will stop craving it.

Dried mango is a good sweet hit I find
