Cambridge Plan & gallstones risk

I seriously need to lose some weight and did the Cambridge Plan a long time ago. I lost a lot of weight and kept it off for about 5 years but I’ve now gained so much and struggling to lose.

Tried Weight Watchers recently and found it ok but only lost half a lb in a week which was a shock because I expected a much bigger loss especially in my first week. It isn’t very motivating!

The only thing putting me off the Cambridge is the risk of gallstones. Does anyone have anyone experience of this? My first time on the Plan I lost three stones with no problems but now I have more to lose and have a dd so worried about gallstones.

I don't have any first hand experience of the Cambridge plan, but any rapid weight loss increases your risk of developing gallstones. It's boring but slow and steady would really be better from that point of view.

I haven’t done the Cambridge diet but have had gallstones which for me were mostly caused by pregnancy so can’t really help on that front. Losing weight 1 to 2lbs a week will help reduce the risk and my personal view is not to go too low fat.

Hear what you are saying about half a pound not being motivating and do get that but the important thing is to just keep at it. Sometimes it does take a week or two to see a loss, depends where you in your cycle, a change in the amount of exercise you do can all affect things and mean you retain water masking a loss.

I lost a pound when I started in Nov 2016 which didn’t feel great as the time as needed to lose weight to be referred for gallbladder removal. However I kept at it and have lost about 95lbs now which makes a huge difference. I’ve focused a lot on how I will maintain at the end and have had a big lifestyle change which has really helped. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
