Just looking for any advise I’m a mum of 2 still breast feeding my baby who is 8 months old Ive not tried to loose weight as I wanted to give my baby a good start. I was great at exercising until October last year when I had a few big family issues. This has set me back so much and I know I’m Feeling worse for not exercising. But I can’t find it in me to exercise when my baby does not sleep I get about 4 hours sleep a night and by lunch feel egsausted. I am about 2 stone7 pound over weight. Any tips or motivation would be amazing!,

my body wouldn't lose any weight when I was bf - it was as though it knew it had to keep all the energy in reserve, and wasn't giving up any stores at all.
it fell off me when I stopped bf mind, with the added advantage that the dc's started sleeping through, and I could exercise. I know my body, and I've never been able to lose weight when bf.

I joined SlimmingWorld when DS2 was 1 month old. He's now 9 months and I've lost 3.5 stone. As I've been breastfeeding I got an extra allowance which made it easier. He doesn't sleep particularly well either it I've been running 3 times a week. It was SO hard to begin with but got easier as it went on and the 30/40 mins that I get to myself while I'm running are bliss!

You need to eat very well as you are feeding baby
So don't cut down or avoid anything
Eat what you need and should have but just calculate the portion and do exercise in line with the amount you eat plus extra to loose

Allthestripes · 23/02/2018 08:58

Firstly well done for still breastfeeding! I’m finding it hard....Did you breastfeed your first? How did you find weight loss then? Because I found with my first that I always carried an extra 7lb no matter how healthy my diet was and couldn’t lose the excess until after I’d stopped breastfeeding. This time round I was in the same situation up until baby was 10 weeks. However I started exercising at that point and managed to shed the extra weight (baby is 18 weeks now) I’m exercising for 30 mins 4 times a week - do you have time to do this? If so start off really slowly and build up the intensity week by week - if you start off too quickly you could injure yourself and do more harm than good.

As far as motivation is concerned, that will come when you start to see a difference! And remember 8 months is still early days especially when your body is still holding onto fat stores to make food for your baby - good luck x

I lost all my weight after giving birth to two babies 13 months apart whilst breast feeding
It's easy if you do it correctly

Allthestripes · 23/02/2018 09:57

Lizadiet - congratulations.

Unfortunately it’s not as easy for everyone. OP has already mentioned she also had family issues which certainly wouldn’t have helped.

lizadiet · 23/02/2018 10:00

I work with people with all issues including health, mental and diet and I devise a personalised approach to help them
My methods always work
I've never had any body who has not lost weight

THANK you all for the comments! Thank you @allthestripes I only breastfed ds1 for 3 weeks Turner out she had lots of allergies she was a constant crier up until about 9/10 months i also had post natal depression with ds1 so with all this I maintained a heavy weight probably around 13 stone. When ds1 was 10 months I fell pregnant again of which i ate a lot better and only gained about 1st 7 pounds through my pregnancy and I walked the dogs everyday. I will be working 2 full days from next week and I have my children tue to thur 2yr old and 8 month old and unfortunately my partner works until 7/8pm most nights..altho I have invested in a double pushchair today ! So hopefully can do some power walking and I also have a bike with seat so when the light nights come i can go out with ds1 ! I will keep up with the healthy eating and try not to worry so much over loosing weight quickly.

I think Slimming World And or WW do a breastfeeding plan so you can safely lose weight while still feeding. Might be worth checking that out?

lizadiet · 23/02/2018 11:06

I reccommend doing more steps then you can eat more if you want

Rikalaily · 23/02/2018 11:15

SW is fab while BFing, I always gained ALOT while bfing my other kids, after my last one I joined sw and the weight fell off, I lost 3.5st in 6 months and managed to keep it off until last year when I got pregnant again and I have put 3st back on. I'm 24 weeks and just rejoined so I can lose a little/stay static before baby comes and the rest will come off afterwards.

Ilovemybaby91 · 23/02/2018 11:40

My daughter is 8 months too & im still breastfeeding & trying to lose weight. I've lost 12lb which i know is good but the rest is coming off soooo slowly now. Pre-pregnancy I lost weight much quicker on the same diet so like you I'm convinced a mix of pregnancy/breast feeding is effecting my body some how! It's frustrating isn't it?! I intend to b/f till she's around 1yo hopefully it'll drop off then like many others have said! It's only a few months right? Blush good luck!

lizadiet · 23/02/2018 11:47

If you give me more information on what you weigh and what you want to loose plus your height and what food you enjoy I can point you in the right direction

bobstersmum · 23/02/2018 11:51

I have breastfed constantly for almost 4 years as couldn't fully wean ds2 and then dd was born, she's now almost 10 months. The whole time I bf ds2 I struggled to lose weight I was always up to a stone over where I wanted to be, I found that bf made me hungry! However since Ds1 started school in September walking to the school and back twice a day I have naturally lost weight, I never had the willpower to exercise before but have no choice now! I am not eating any differently. So I believe the key is moderate exercise as you don't really want to cut anything out of your diet while feeding a young baby.

lizadiet · 23/02/2018 12:01

You need to eat 2000 calories if breast feeding
And you need fats too
You need a mixture and variety
Just calorie count and do steps marching on the spot whilst watching Tv or walking around the house try to do say 16000 steps

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 23/02/2018 12:03

I’d say just try to relax and eat healthy food until you’re getting some more sleep. Don’t be too hard on yourself. You have physical work to do keeping your baby fed you can concentrate on everything else in time.

I’ve just finished breastfeeding so I started a diet when I was down to one twins feed per day. Prior to that when I was hungry my body demanded food and I would start shaking and feel nauseated if I went just a few hours without. The breastfeeding still kept the weight off really well and I’d probably look great right now if I didn’t develop that 1ltr ice cream per day habit.🤭

So when I got down to the single feed I started a 1500 calorie diet. My exercise was just the daily chasing after a 4 year old and 18 month old twins. Weight was falling off until I stopped breastfeeding entirely so I’d suggest, if you can/want to, you could keep some breast milk back when you’re done breastfeeding and just pump (or keep that final feed going longer) to encourage weight loss.

As PP stated, you do need to make sure you’re eating well right now, so I would wait a while and just eat lots of veg in the meantime.

PoshPenny · 23/02/2018 12:13

Just eat really healthily, cut out the biscuits bread etc etc and don't overdo it on the other carbs at mealtimes. I lost 2 stone this way in 4 months whilst feeding my daughter. I had put on 5 stone during the pregnancy because I was stupid and had eaten everything I fancied. I am just a greedy person.

Ilovemybaby91 · 23/02/2018 12:27

Lol @poshpenny 'I am just a greedy person. I can relate GrinBlush

lizadiet · 23/02/2018 13:15

But you can eat what like if you burn it off

lizadiet · 23/02/2018 13:16

Eat what you like *
