Help - flying soon and very worried as I won't be able to do up the seatbelt on the plane

That is it really. We have the option of a weekend away in Dublin, and really want to go. However, the last time I flew (years ago) I struggled to do up the seatbelt, and I have put on loads of weight since then.

I am going to be so embarrased!
What will happen, will they take me off the plane? Will they have a seat-belt extender? Surely I can't be the only overweight person ever to have flown?

I am trying to lose weight at the moment, but we are going away in 2 weeks time, so no amazing results can be expected in such a short time...

Please don't worry about it, they have seat-belt extenders, maybe just have a quiet word with stewardess before you take your seat, so that it's no big deal if you find you can't do up the seatbelt.

have a lovely time and come and join the lardy ladies or one of the weightloss threads when you get back (or before if you are really keen).

Thanks for your messages. Will have a quiet word after boarding.
My weight has been a big issue for years. However, I have struggled with deep depression for the past 4-odd years and there was no way mentally I could cope with dieting also. Now I am feeling much better mentally, and have started a healthy-eating and excercise plan. Have only been doing it for 2 weeks, but so far so good.
Am also considering going to a hypnotherapist to help me tackle my emotional overeating.
So it is in hand, but of course I won't see any magical results in the next two weeks.

another plug for BigMoFos or Lardy ladies. You will find support from poeple who have the same issues. I have lost enough (very slowly) that I now don;t have to worry about plane seat belts (snug but doable!) but know exactly what you mean.

BigMoFo's are happy to provide support and a "safe" place to chat if you don;t want to diet or weigh in, we have severa lurker who just want someone to talk to and no-one is 10 stone talking about being porky or how they need to lose 7lb to fit into their size 10 bikini.

Enjoy your holiday.

What is the difference between BigMoFo's and Lardy Ladies?

My main concern is doing a weekly weigh-in because from past experience I know that as soon as I don't lose any weight, I fall off the wagon so to speak.

At the mo I am doing the Paul McKenna system and he actually advises you not to weigh yourself but go by how energetic you feel/how well your clothes fit. If you do want to weigh yourself he suggests only once every 2 weeks.
(I am on day 20 and have not weighed myself yet, am too scared in case this is another failure )

I think they were just set up at differet times - just lurk on them both and pick te one you feel most in tune with.

We do a weekly weigh in but not everyone participates so if you don't want to, you can just come along for the chat. We have all experienced the "falling off the wagon" effect and do talk wbout it a lot, don;t forget your not going to have to be publically wieghed and that does seem to encourage me to post even if I've put on, I don't want to kid myself or my fellow BigMoFo's so I'm very honest about both my weight and my feelings with the girls. Also don;t forget its not falling off the wagon that maters its getting back on it again. Someone once said to me (old WW leader) that the people who lost weight were the ones that kept comin back (for years if necessary) come rain or shine, loss or gain, they just kept plodding on and eventually they lost more than they gained. Thats the approach I take. I aim to lose about 2lb per month, over a very long time and hopefully it will stick.

Last year I flew to Dublin with Ryanair and flew back with aerlingus. On the Ryanair flight I needed a seat belt extender and on the aer lingus flight I didn't. I sat near the aisle and when I got on the plane I spent about 5 minutes trying to get the belt done up (drawing lots of attention to myself I'm sure), I was really embarrased but just said to the stewardess that my belt wouldn't do up, she handed me an extender, it really wasn't a big deal like I thought it might me. It did make me realise that I needed to lose weight though, I flew to Ireland again in Feb. this year with ryanair and this time the belt did up, I still have lots of weight to lose.
