I feel like I’m never going to lose weight

Sad I need to lose 2.5 stone. I’m short so I look terrible. I’d be happy if I could lose one stone but I just can’t seem to do it. It’s not that I don’t know what to eat or how to be healthy, I just seem to eat mindlessly and too much. I also exercise. All my family and friends are slim and i always feel so fat that I avoid lots of socials or feel crap when I do meet up with people. My sister in law is amazed that I can run 5km regularly but haven’t lost weight. I just feel like I’m not living the life I want to be living because of my weight. Does anyone else relate to this?

Yes Foghead I can relate.
I'm quite tall so look like a huge wall lumbering along. I should probably lose 2 and a half stone but, like you, would feel so much better with even a stone.
I can't seem to stick to healthy eating for more than two days in a row, then I feel so cheesed off with myself I eat all the worst things I can find in the house. I know how to lose weight but just can't knuckle down to actually do it Sad

CoperCabana · 11/01/2018 21:22

Am the same. I can do it. I know how to do it. I lost three stone two years ago. I just can’t seem to be arsed about it. I really do have to think a lot about it to lose weight and I don’t seem to have the brain space.

halfwitpicker · 11/01/2018 21:23

You need to use MFP and list what you eat.

Or if you're brave tell us on here.

OneMoreOne · 11/01/2018 21:28

It's so hard isn't it! No advice but I'm with you Thanks

GinisLife · 11/01/2018 21:48

I'm with you. I trained to run a half marathon and didn't lose an ounce. I gave up alcohol for 3 months - didn't lose an ounce. It's crap.

Foghead · 12/01/2018 06:46

It’s shitty isn’t it?
I think you’re right Halfwit. I need to write it down. It will probably shame me if I have to write all the mindless eating.

I'm similar.

I have managed to plateau by only eating between 7am (breakfast) and 7pm (end of dinner). To stop mindless evening eating I brush my teeth at the same time as the DC

Come and join us on Low Carb Bootcamp. It has pretty impressive results.

Do you have funds to access a group personal trainer? Mine is absolutely amazing and I have totally changed my mindset, eating habits and cupboard contents, and dress size. It's 'expensive', but my life has totally changed and i'll be here longer for my kids and can play football with DS for hours. Worth every penny.

Yes to MFP, its great and addictive!

Often you actually need to be eating quite a lot of the right foods to lose weight. Mostly protein and green veg so you won't be starving hungry. It depends if you want to go for an all out attack or lose weight gradually though as to what carbs and fats you're eating.

You need to think about your long term aims. Are you looking into slimming for health reasons or to feel better about how you look, or a bit of both? If you can run 5k you can lift some weights which helps you drop the kilos and get toned up.

It's always worth being healthy and feeling good about yourself! You can do this!! If you're on FB I'd recommend looking on your local pages for recommendations of group PT. It's just brilliant and its changed my life.

Good luck!

I've been doing my fitness Pal since 2nd Jan and I've lost 1/2 stone!!!

I can't quite believe it.
I was previously shoving anything in my mouth but my fitness makes you question your choices.

So for example.i had fajitas for dinner last night and instead of rolling them I add one wrap and piled the chicken on top. That save me 300 calories!!

Thing is you need the head space to get into it. I felt miserable all.of last year and have o Lu just felt able to do it it due to other stuff going on.

Don't despair. Just start one day.

I have 2 stone to go. Good luck xx

I also agree this is mindset.

Right now the bottom line is it's not important enough to you. That doesn't mean it's not important to you. But it's just not important enough to you to stop you eating as much.

There is no such thing as mindless eating. You know when you're eating, and you are choosing to do it, because you'd rather do that than not eat and lose weight. It's that simple.

For me there is always a trigger, right now it's a big work event I need to attend, so that's my goal. If I don't have a goal, I struggle to get in the mindset of doing it.

Is there some event coming up you'd like to be slimmer for? A pair of jeans you'd like to get into? If you do 5k it sounds like you're good at working towards goals, so maybe setting yourself one would help.

Foghead · 12/01/2018 07:54

Everything is a trigger!
Dh telling me about invitations with his friends, visiting family, kids wanting to go swimming. One of dhs friends came over from Australia for Xmas and really wants us to go and visit and has offered accommodation. All I could think was ‘thank goodness we can’t afford it yet’ instead of getting excited.
I look terrible in photos so avoid them and I don’t want crap photos this year.
I used to look good now I feel embarrassed about how I look.

Bluntness100 · 12/01/2018 08:01

I think we've all been there. Or i have at least. But avoiding things and being miserable isn't the answer.

So instead of whinging whilst stuffing yourself with toast Grin pick something. Say when I go to x I will be slimmer, I will diet until then.

Low carb works for me by the way also. Finding the right way of eating may be something else that helps you.

SavageBeauty73 · 12/01/2018 08:05

I've been logging my food on MFP and it makes me think about every mouthful. I'm a terrible snacker so stopped buying anything nice for the house. I've bought the kids snacks I don't like.

Foghead · 12/01/2018 09:11

How do you know I whinge and stuff myself with toast? Blush
I think I’m made of dough the amount I eat. Certainly feels like it.

New start today. I’m going to log everything on mfp.
Thank you for suggestions for low carb. I’ve tried it and I don’t get on well with it. I like soups, brown rice, lentils and whole foods so I’ll carry on eating that.
