Any weightloss experts out there? Where am I going wrong?

I'm totally confused. I wanted this to be the year I turn my weight around. I have a good few stone to use and was feeling so motivated and enjoying g being healthier. I started on 2nd Jan.
I've been using my fitness pal to track my calories in and out and have been under or bang on 1200 every day.
I've been eating very healthily- things like fish, lots of veggies, jacket potatoes for dinner, porridge and fruit, my fitness pal is looking good and nothing bad has passed my lips.
I also started the Couch to 5k plan this Monday and I've done more exercise this week than I did in the whole of 2017! I'm aware I only started that very recently so that can't be making any difference yet.
My problem is that I've been at this now for 9 days and nothing has happened. I weighed myself on 2nd Jan and then again this morning and there's simply no change. Not even half a pound! I'm obviously glad I've put nothing on, but I thought o might have at least lost a pound in over a week.
What am I doing wrong? Is it my scales? Am I missing some vital part of the plan to lose weight?! Am I too impatient?

Could be carbs. Insulin resistance.

I agree with measuring yourself too. I lost inches before I lost weight.

Could it be that you'd indulged a bit over Xmas and perhaps would have been due to put weight on if you hadnt started eating well and exercising - so even though it hadn't shown on the scales yet it was looming, and that's what you've stayed off instead of losing for the first week or two? I started my health kick on the 4th Jan, but I knew that I'd gone silly stuffing the remains of the Xmas chocolate down my gullet in the 10 days running up to that, so I may not lose weight immediately because of it..

I also find the week before my period can often show a plateau, no matter how good I've been that week.

If you really are eating much healthier and exercising more it WILL come off sooner or later. Keep at it. You're doing good.

Ps, that's assuming you really need to lose weight. Sometimes people that aren't overweight decide they're on a diet and the body doesn't lose weight because they're healthy and don't need to. As you get nearer to your ideal BMI/healthy weight you tend to lose weight more slowly.

This is the thread I need!
I’ve just started exercise and healthy eating. Have actually cut my work hours as was working such crazy hours I had just stopped having time to exercise or think sensibly about food.

I have been feeling demoralised this morning as no weight loss. Whereas friends who are doing a “diet” and no exercise (rather than exercise plus healthy eating ) are shedding pounds.

But i’ve Got myself fit before without weighing myself or consciously dieting (I do find exercising makes me eat more healthily though), and I really got back to a good figure (then went and got pregnant! ). So I think we need to trust in our choices and the advice of others.

I don’t just want to be slim, my bigger goal is to be able to go running with my son (who has got into junior park run) without humiliating myself! I want to enjoy sports with my children not sit on the sidelines.

I could have written your post!! I too started 9 days ago. This morning, I appear to have actually gained 2 lb!!!

I'm hoping it might be down to AF - I've lost track of when I'm due but if it is next week as I suspect, I ALWAYS gain a good 4/5lb the week before.

It's incredibly disheartening (particularly as I am doing exactly the same things as you....using MFP, running again, eating very heathily and cutting out the crap).

My friend has been doing SLimming World, seems to be eating every hour or so, does absolutely no exercise and is shedding pounds!! Snot fair....
But I shall keep going. The advice on this thread has made me feel better too!!

9 days is no time at all! Just find a healthy lifestyle you can maintain long-term. Any fluctuations that you see day to day are not fat anyway - it's just water. If you eat sensibly (maybe a bit more than 1200 cals a day - that is quite low) and exercise you will get where you want to be.

autumngold6 · 19/01/2018 07:53

The body retains water when you first start exercising. 1200 calories sounds very low, most women lose very well on 1500, you will be able to keep that up for longer.

TalkinPeace · 19/01/2018 16:45

Are you adding back (and eating) your exercise calories?
Don't
Use them to give yourself more leeway
and remember

Weight loss is 90% food reduction
and 10% exercise increase

What is your TDEE ?
How does that compare with the number of calories you are actually eating?

Alittleconcerned1980 · 19/01/2018 18:53

Muscle, you've gained muscle

🙄

You started coach to 5k on Monday. I can tell you that you have not gained muscle.

And 9 days is certainly a sufficient amount of time for you to be reasonably expecting a loss.

So, the question is - what are you eating? And are ou sure that you are putting the correct quantities in to MFP?
