No snacks

Happy new year all!

Does anyone want to join me in a "lifestyle change" (not a diet!) of not snacking?

OP posts:
DayKay · 01/01/2018 23:48

I will. I know that’s all
I have to do to lose weight as I usually eat healthy meals but snack a bit much. Often my snacks are healthy too but calorific (peanut butter on oatcakes)

CrestedTit · 02/01/2018 06:14

Excellent Smile. I'm similar with snacking on things like peanut butter or muesli which are "healthy" but still packed with calories..

I made it through the first day - was a bit hungry in bed and tempted to come down for a snack or hot milk but I've decided the only tea and calorie free drinks are "free" so managed to restrain myself 😇.

Today's challenge will be the 4pm - teatime slot when I'm always hungry and a bit grumpy. My plan is to buy a bottle of SF pop after work and "treat" myself with that.

Good luck today DayKay. FYI I have also joined the "Diet starts 1st January" thread as I was feeling a bit lonely here!

Snacks are totally my downfall too (ok also eating some of the kids dinner then my own one later). Am determined to find some willpower this year...

DayKay · 02/01/2018 18:44

we re back to our routines tomorrow so I’ll start my new no snack regime. I’ve not been properly organised today.

Hi, are any of you still around? I'd love to join in. I snack, a lot. Mainly at night when I can't sleep. I love cake, crisps, and chocolate. If I can just cut down on those (Oh yeah, so easy! Hmm lol Grin ) I think I could lose quite well.
I packed on the pounds after giving up smoking. I swapped one addiction for another. However, I'm going to approach it (Hopefully.) the same way I gave up smoking. I'm not giving up, I'm just not having cake (Choc, crisps, etc.) now, and try and ride out the cravings.
Good luck everyone!

Hi kittycat I'm still here, I've been posting on other threads as well.

Insomnia is awful when you're trying to eat better - I get the urge to eat at night too, plus when you're tired the next day it's even more difficult to resist the urge to pep yourself up with sugar.

My first week at work has gone OK - I've managed to get through the 4pm slump and persuaded DP that we should have dinner at 6 - 7pm as I'd collapse (or more likely just get really really ratty) if we left it any later. It's been a fairly relaxed week though so it remains to be seen how I'll cope with stress without snacking.

DayKay, Changing, how's it going?

Sorry, I meant to ask Kittycat - how come you can't sleep?

I just can’t seem to get into the zone!
I’m skipping breakfast today, going for a run then having lunch when I’m back. I need to make a wholesome soup, I think.

Hi CrestedTit , nice to meet you. Smile I've been posting on this thread too: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight_loss_chat/3123672-2018-Thread-2-of-Help-Me-Mumsnet-I-have-4-stone-to-lose-and-10k-debt-to-pay-off
I actually started on it last year but didn't keep it up. Am determined to this year!
I've had insomnia for ages. I just get more and more awake at night and only really go to bed when I think I should, not because I'm tired.
Well done on not snacking! That's a big achievement. Glad your week has gone ok.
I'm having my last hoorah tomorrow, take a way, the getting on it come Monday.

DayKay - how was your run? You definitely need to be in the right mindset to change a lifestyle/habit. I've been motivating myself by a) thinking of it as "self care" rather than something I'm doing because I hate my body and b) remembering that I don't currently have any jeans that fit Sad. By the end of January I want to be able to wear something other than dresses or jogging bottoms Blush

Kitty Ah yes I've seen that thread - the OP has done amazingly. I especially liked the motos that she put in her first post "every day is everything", and "the secret is there is no secret". If you want to be slim you have to work at maintaining healthy eating habits every day (or almost every day at least). Really good advice I thought.

I've made it through the week Smile, although I did slip a bit this evening with a cup of semi skimmed milk (am supposed to be drinking water, SF soft drinks or tea only).

The next couple of weeks at work are likely to be quite stressful so avoiding emotional snacking or binging will be hard but I'm going to try.

Today's menu/exercise:
8k run
B - banana porridge
Long walk
L - smoked salmon on ryebread, banana and pecan loaf
D - bol veg pot with extra vegetables, large handful pecans, apple
Cup of milk in the evening.

I'm terrible for snacking too. I've just re-started doing SW and whilst my main meals are spot on, I'm still snacking on cake, chocolate, bread sticks etc. It's purely because it's there - I work 3 days a week and never snack during the working day as I don't get a chance plus there's nothing there to eat. It's frustrating as I don't seem to be able to stop myself sabotaging my other efforts.

Truthspkr · 08/01/2018 00:15

Insomnia can be a pain when trying not to snack as we all know snacking can be as much to do with boredom as it is with hunger. Eating foods high in the amino acid tryptophan about an hour before bed can sometimes help if you haven' t tried it already.
Also taking as much electronic equipment out of the bedroom eg TV, laptop etc can also help.
If you' re feeling tired go to sleep asap, don' t finish reading that chapter or watching that film or you might feel awake again by the end.

DayKay · 08/01/2018 07:31

Crested my run was good. I’m really getting into it but I don’t run more than 30mins at the moment and do about 3.5km. I’m impressed with your 8k!
Today I’m going to only eat my 3 meals and not snack.
I’m always motivated on Monday mornings Smile

CrestedTit · 08/01/2018 20:41

Managed to get through a long and stressful day at work without snacking which I'm pleased with, now just need to make it through the evening. DP is out which would usually translate to me spending the evening grazing but tonight I'll have to make do with herbal tea.

B - 2 boiled eggs
L - salad with (lots of) feta
T - salad with tuna, avocado & humus. Chocolate marshmallow bar.

CrestedTit · 09/01/2018 22:37

Another no snack day, although dinner was spectacularly unhealthy:
B - protein bar
L - salad, superfood protein shake
T - halloumi burger, chips, 3 bottles zero alcohol beer
Exercise - 30 minutes on the cross trainer and 5 minutes rowing
