Loosing weight too fast ?

Even though I am very overweight, I was always more than happy with myself and not a diet person but for medical reasons I have been put on a restrictive low fat diet since I got out of hospital five weeks ago and I must stick to it before I go back to hospital next month.

My worry is that I seem to loosing weight far too quickly. I do an average exercise video at home couple times a week and just started one salsa class outside the house...so I don't do loads.

I was so concerned about my weight loss over the past five weeks, that I found some scales and this morning I found out that in the last 7 days I have lost 15.2 lbs God knows how much I have lost over the last five weeks, though I had to go out and buy new clothes as I could take off my old pants without unzipping them first.

That seems a hell of a lot for 7 days...I am eating no/low fat diet. So Bran flakes for breakfast. Chicken salad with mini pitta bread for lunch and chicken/cod with boiled rice/jacket potato with steamed vegatables for tea. Snacks are fruit or low fat yogurt and the occassional piece of turkish delight as a low fat treat.

Bearing in mind that according to the doctors, I still need to aim to lose just over two stone to be at my ideal weight, should I be worrying ? Am I eating too little ? Am I loosing weight to fast ?

BTW I am not aiming to loose any weight, it is just essential that I remain on this no/low fat diet.

Any advice is welcome.

HI, dont have any personal experience oof this but my SIL was put on a strict low fat diet due to gall stones some years back, had to eat just as you are describing. In 1 year she went from a size 16ish to a size 6. She had just had her son and was a size 16 after she had him, when his first birthday came she was a size 6. She lost lots of weight very quickly. Hope this helps. By the way once she resumed eating relatively normally egain (she is never allowed to eat really high fat again), she is now about a size 12 and seems to be staying there.

I'm on the cambridge diet and they state that even if you lose quickly, there's no proven reason why you should put it back on quickly. Also, if you lose a lot, your doctors will soon say if you're losing too much and will increase the amount of calories you're having.
I had my gall bladder removed about 3 years ago but I have eaten some fat since so that's another reason I'm doing the diet. I don't usually eat chips, chocloate bars, crisps etc but cheese is my downfall.
I don't think it's a bad thing to do for your health, if for nothing else and if you feel concerned that you're losing too much too quickly, then you should speak to your doctor/consultant.

Thanks Ladies.

Yes, I do have gall stones and I have been told that I should stick to a lower (but not stupidly low fat like now) fat diet for life which really depressing me as I LOVE junk food.

But I am pleased that I am not doing anything wrong and though I hate eating low fat, my body seems to love all the veg and fruit intake

All I can say is thank goodness wine has no fat ;) Not that I drink a lot anyway, as I breastfeeding my 8 month old DD.

Are you not having your gall baldder removed then and are you in pain? The pain from an attack was by far the worse pain I've ever had and it made me really really ill. I couldn't eat steak, chocolate, cheese or anything with fat in (macdonalds/pizza/fish fingers/waffles etc) or it would bring on anattack.
I had my gall bladder removed by key hole surgery in Germany and the consultant told me that to leave gall stones in, could cause peritinitus (sp) or even cancer. Not meaning to scare you - but I wouldn't want them to stay there forever! You don't need it but I know the waiting list in the UK is about a year.

I have been having attacks of sickness and pain since December 06.

Then five weeks ago I turned yellow and my wee turned red and the pain got sooo bad that my DH took me to the emergency doctors who transferred me to the A&E surgical unit at the local hospital. They did lads of procedures/pain killers etc and after a week sent me home to await an gall bladder removal operation date, which is set for a months time.

But I started again yesterday with a gall bladder attack....I had to walk to the doctors pushing my DD in her pram in a lot of pain and throwing up into a plastic bag on the way...what fun

I am to stay at home and off food for two days and see if the attack goes away, if the pain gets to bad or if I turn yellow again I must go to hospital.

Today I am just uncomfortable and off colour and hungry. I'll try food again on Thursday and I have my fingers crossed that it doesn't trigger another attack.

Roll on my operation

Maybe check with GP but I was prescribed Diclofenac (strongest anti imflammatory) to take as soon as I had an attack and usually it worked in 5 mins and then it was fine. I remember going to the emergency doc in the early hours one night, throwing up into a bag on the side of the road, whislt DH was driving and trying to console DD (18 months) who we had to wake to take with us.
My GP did say if I had another attack to call an ambulance in the middle of it then they might whip it out in A & E instead of having to wait. But as DH was forces and we were moving to Germany, they removed it within 2 weeks of my arrival in Germany as I was his wife. I don't think I could have coped any longer. Poor you - I really feel for you.

GP won't give me any painkillers as I am breastfeeding and the ones they normally give are not compatible with breastfeeding.

I was in A&E surgical unit for a week but they wanted me to recover from the procedures and stop being yellow before the operated on me. Hence my operation date for next month.
