Are any of you vegetarians? I struggled with SW, just signed up for WW this morning but would like your opinions on the differences.

i have done SW before but struggled with evenign meal ideas (i have started another thread on this subject). Am thinking of joining again. Have a stone to lose. Also exercising on cross trainer. Does this sound achievable by August?

Doing quite well after 6 weeks with WW.
I like the points counting aspect, as it makes me choose more wisely, but there is also the Core Plan if you don't want to be counting points.

fireflyfairy2 · 24/04/2007 10:10

Have done both & by far find sw the best

You always have something to eat! Fruit, or ham, or whatever day you are on there is always something snacky to be had!

Snacks are my downfall & that is where I suffered with ww as when my points had run out there was nothing more I could eat, barr sugar free jelly!!!

jo25 · 24/04/2007 10:10

SW definately. since being on it have lost over 3 stone and basically become vegetarian.

Mumbojumbo · 24/04/2007 10:11

I'm doing SW and love it! I've almost gone completely vegetarian as I particularly enjoy the green plan and don't miss meat at all. Have plenty of couscous, quinoa, brown rice, lentils, chick peas and pulses. No prob!

Huffpuff, I think a stone by August is achievable - certainly in 4 months.

huffpuff · 24/04/2007 10:13

i just cant get my head around being able to eat pasta and still lose weight but i guess it does work!!

All i have to do now is find a class which i can attend in between working pt and looking after 2 munchkins!

Do most of you on here go to a class?

OP posts:
gigglinggoblin · 24/04/2007 10:13

sw is great for veggies, i find that i can eat all the healthy stuff i usually eat (in larger quantities!) but just have to restrict the snacks. i do also struggle with lack of bread and convenience food. ww is better if you need convenience food and are happy to eat a lot less

Earthymama · 24/04/2007 10:20

I have to be careful with fibre and the last time I tried SW I ended up in hospital and cameras etc were involved!! So I'm just a bit wary though I've seen people do amazingly well on SW.
I quite like counting points etc sad person that I am. I HAVE to leave some for a treat about 9pm or all will go wrong.
Good luck everyone.

jo25 · 24/04/2007 10:24

I atttend a class each week, and if dh is not home in time to look after ds(4.6) he comes with me, he loves it an deveryone loves seeing him. My sw consultant has the approach she would rather see children every week rather than parent/s give up going. Its also veryt handy because i get ds weighed reguarly. I to work part time and do not really find this a problem as you can have 2 weeks of a month if working.

Mumbojumbo · 24/04/2007 10:38

Hi Huffpuff

I go to a class on a Monday at 7pm (DH looks after the kids!). There is an alternative on Tues am if I can't get to the Mon one. Now I'm at target I don't need to go every week but still do as I like the motivation and chat with friends. You could perhaps weigh and go but I think the bit afterwards is useful, particularly if you have questions. Have you considered doing the online Body Optimise if you couldn't get to a class?

i know sooooo many people where SW has worked but it kinda goes against everything ive been taught about dieting!

OP posts:
ledodgy · 24/04/2007 20:26

In SW you can have meat and carbs in one meal. If you are on a green day for example you can have a chicken breast/beef etc as a healthy extra then unlimited veg/rice pasta whatever. There are also 3 different versions of the diet which you can try on a day to day basis if you like. SW is simply healthy eating but you can eat as much as you want of the right foods. I do mostly green days and couldn't believe I could eat as much as I did and still lose weight but I have. It's also the only diet i've ever been on that doesn't feel like a diet and the only one i've been on where I don't constantly think about food. I could honestly eat this way for the rest of my life.

Stardust123 · 25/04/2007 22:36

Went back to Slimming World recently but have developed an aversion towards jacket potatoes, pasta in sauce, muller light yoghurts (yuk) and quorn. Went to weight watchers last week and although you can't eat as much food as SW, I find it better as there is more choice. All Tesco Healthy Living Meals seem to have the WW points value on the back. Also been having lots of treats, Strawberries & Cream Biscuits (1½ points for 2) and Date & Walnut Cake Bars (1 point each). Get weighed tomorrow so hope I have done alright. Last week at the class, most people seem to have lost 1 - 2lb whereas at SW, it was ½ - 1lb losses most of the time. You don't need to plan as much I think at weight watchers, whereas SW you really have to plan well in advance. I struggled with evening meals at SW.

Beadmum · 26/04/2007 10:03

i love slimming world, doesnt even feel like youre on a diet most of the time. cant stand diets where you have to count everything you eat, obviously sw you do have to plan meals but i do this anyway and dont really do convenience foods so its perfect for me, also you can go out to eat and pick something off the menu easily. Basically i think changing the way you eat for life is the only way to lose weight and keep it off and i know i couldnt count points for the rest of my life but sw plan i definitely could.

hayes · 26/04/2007 13:47

I have did both and have to say WW is working for me. Have lost a stone in 5 weeks, another 3 to target weight which I hope to do for hols in October

GeeGee2 · 26/04/2007 23:37

Found this thread interesting - I have 8 stone to lose and have been pondering WW or SW. (Have done SW in the past). I really don't want to be doing separate meals for everyone - could the whole family just follow SW evening meals?

huffpuff · 27/04/2007 10:00

i have to admit that in the past i have struggled with evening meals on SW but in principle i like the idea behind it.

Is WW hard to follow?

kslatts · 27/04/2007 10:31

I've just re-joined ww and have done both in the past. I prefer ww, we eat out about once a week and I find ww easier in a restaurant, you do have to count all your points, but their eating out guide covers most of the big chains and also a section for pub food.
