Hi,

I want to lose about a stone and keep it off. I dont want to calorie count or go to a club or anything like that. I basically want to channge my bad habits which I have identified as:

  1. Nibbling too much when cooking/feeding DD
2 Comfort eating when stressed/worried
  1. Overeating at meal times.

If left to my own devices I would eat all day but think I need to be more disciplined. I have decided 3 meals a day with fruit as a snack if hungry should help tackle this. I know its meant to be better for you to have several small meals but I think this will just trigger me to carry on nibbling (this makes sense to me!). Do any of you eat 3 meals a day without snacks and how does it work for you?

The other thing I was thinking of doing was cutting out the 'bad' food in my diet just while I am losing weight. For me its choc, ice cream, biscuits and take aways. I know people say you shouldnt cut things out but I just cant seem to have one portion so think cutting it out all together will be better. I reckon I will be able to reintroduce this type of food once I have lost the weight. Have any of you done this?

Finally, portion sizes. Any tips on this. I have read a portion of something is normally about the size of you palm as a guide. I know this shouldnt be rocket science but its something I struggle with.

I am also going to start doing my excercise videos 3 times a week. TBH I already get a fair bit of exercise looking after DD and walking to work but nothing particularly cardiovascular.

Thanks

You could try a food diary, write down everything you concume, you'll soon see where your problem areas are. And NO cheating.
I'm a great one for selective memory on what I've eaten so this really works for me.
After a couple of weeks you'll be in the groove so you can forget the diary.
Keep the exercise up, it will help you burn calories and make you feel good.
Good luck

hi

well done for thinking and planning ahead

things that work for me-

have a main meal at lunchtime. sometimes when it comes to dinner at night you arent hungry so you dont even want to eat then

dont eat after 5/6pm - whatever works best

stop eating bread. it bloats you anyway and if you dont eat bread, this prevents the toast or sandwich snack!

just dont have things like biscuits or ice cream in the house. thats the only way to stop eating them imo

i would try and do half an hour of exercise every day to start of with. then it becomes part of your routine. i do 30 mins yoga as soon as i get out of bed. this is because i get up beofre everyone else to get time for myself!

keep a diary of food and excercise

good luck

Hi

Portion sizes are important, I don't like the idea of cutting out 'bad' things like bread or dairy as if you want to go back to eating them after diet then you may up just going right back to what you used to eat. On the other hand if you just eat less of what you see yourself eating in the future that helps change your lifestyle. Plus no way would I give up bread or dairy!

I would eat a lot less of it though. No toast in the morning, cereal instead. Do cut down on cheese (if you eat it), very fattening. I would have a sandwich/soup and bread for lunch, no crisps or sweets but fruit instead and then a light dinner.

Walk as much as you can.

Re portion sizes, try not to have more than 80g (before cooking) of spaghetti, 60g would be better. If using rice again 60g is a good amount.

Also, buy the spray oil! I love it!
