Maple Syrup diet - lose a stone in 10 days

A friend of mine is contemplating trying this diet. Apparently it is taking Britain by storm (I must have my head buried in the sand somewhere because this has passed me by).

Basically you live off a concoction of maple syrup, lemons and cayenne pepper. I'm not surprised that one loses so much weight. Would most of the weight stay off if you ate healthily afterwards though?

Just seems to be another extreme diet to me. I'll stick to eating healthily and exercising.

apparently Beyonce used it to lose all that weight for Dreamgirls. i think it sounds revolting, but am slightly tempted for beach time...

Well, yes - weight loss is a symptom of diabetes.

Yet another foolish fad diet. What is wrong with these people? Why do they keep falling into this trap?
Am very against fad diets you will end up larger than when you started if you do these diets

Iklboo · 11/04/2007 13:38

Think you'd have malnutrition if you tried this - can't see the weight staying off that well either

speedymama · 11/04/2007 13:44

Ah yes, Beyonce. She lost 20lb in 2 weeks for a film role.

Slebs are a different breed to us mere mortals.

it just seems so random. you could sit at home making these up. tomato ketchup, pinapple and ginger. nutella, carrots and soap.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 11/04/2007 19:45

I don't think I could do it for 1 day, let alone 10.

I saw a piece in a magazine about it the other day. Someone had tried it out and ended up fainting all over the shop, not able to concentrate to do her job, and making herself generally very poorly indeed. She also ended up so hungry that she started bingeing and purging. And that was with her doing the diet under medical supervision.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

If you have the willpower to exist on maple syrup and thin air, wouldn't it be easier to use that willpower to exist on a balanced sensible eating plan where you can at least eat real food?

nallydoolally · 11/04/2007 19:56

i'm always hungry so def wouldn't work for me....

colditz · 12/04/2007 00:15

I alledgedly think it is bollocks anyway, because I alledgedly believe that they lose the weight with the traditional showbiz alledged remedy - cocaine.

alledgedly.

ChelseaDagger · 12/04/2007 00:19

I agree with that colditz (allegedly) (it looks wrong how ever I spell it).

Why do people need to lose weight so quickly anyway? Why not enjoy watching every pound come off and seeing yourself get healtheir and fitter gradually? Rather than making yourself ill and weak in 10 days and putting the weight back on in the next 10. Total madness!

DimpledThighs · 12/04/2007 01:03

LOL pesme!

speedymama · 12/04/2007 09:02

My friend who is planning to do it weighs less than 8stone and is 5ft 3in. She needs help I think!

it's the same deal as the 'lemon detox' diet someone posted about here

utter stupidity IMO.
