Help me to stop eating crap of an evening!

I'm pretty good usually, during the day!!! I even eat a lot of protein.

But it doesn't stop me from gorging of an evening time!

Crisps, biscuits, chocolates etc..... Usually from the kid's packed lunch stash Blush

I've now realised that unless I go to bed with the kids at 7:30, I can't kick this habit!

SoI need advice on either kicking it! Or healthy evening snacks!

It might not be the "healthiest" but something that really helped me was drinking low calorie flavoured water in an evening.

Satisfied that sweet craving but for very low calorie

LemonShake · 25/09/2017 15:22

Sugar free jelly!

InigoTaran · 25/09/2017 15:24

Popcorn, crackers, real mint tea with honey, sparkling mineral water with Lite cranberry juice, low cal hot choc drink, fruit?

LegoShmego · 25/09/2017 16:38

Thank you!

I don't think it's craving sugar, it's just that's what's easiest to find!

Popcorn sounds good. Fruit.... I always have lots of fruit in and never reach for it in the eve. It just doesn't hit the spot!

Hot choc?

Lotsawobblybits · 25/09/2017 16:50

Can you do something to busy your fingers- knitting, painting your nails or colouring in? or prep some celery sticks to pick at?

I don't have it in the house due to my binge eating tenancies, but if it's for kids lunch boxes then that's tricky, could you keep tempting stuff somewhere out of the way like in the car?

pinkhorse · 25/09/2017 16:51

Start a hobby. Keeping yourself busy will stop you thinking about food

BelindaBlinked · 25/09/2017 16:53

I find if you can get through the first few evenings without snacking it becomes a whole lot easier after that.
The only thing that works is willpower or not buying the tasty food. If it's not in the cupboard you can't eat it!

Noofly · 25/09/2017 17:02

A little bit of dark chocolate but just nibble at it and make it last ages. Completely takes away my post dinner cravings.

LegoShmego · 25/09/2017 19:40

Thanks everyone. I do knit, but still snack!
belinda I hope you're right! I gave up smoking 8yrs ago, surely I can do this!

If I had a solution to this problem I'd be a supermodel! Except for my face. And tits.

SkeletonSkins · 25/09/2017 22:47

The only way I have ever managed to do this is to literally have nothing available in the house. Could the kids go on hot dinners?

AccioMerlot · 25/09/2017 23:51

Are you eating enough during the day? Do you know how many calories or how many grams of protein you're actually eating?

SinglePringle · 25/09/2017 23:56

Exercise in the evening - makes me resist temptation as I've just done all the hard work.

Userlavender · 25/09/2017 23:58

Stop buying it / willpower. That's it really - there isn't another magic solution.

LegoShmego · 26/09/2017 14:09

Grin human, me too, although I have no tits I'm a step closer.

I wish they would skeleton! They're not fussy eaters but they like the flexibility of packed lunch.... they get more play time and can eat outside in the summer.

Accio I am trying to increase my protein. I didn't snack at all last night. I'd had porridge, a banana, quinoa & fallafel salad and scrambled egg on toast during the course of the day. That's quite a bit of protein and it seemed to work Smile

Today so far I've had porridge, and green lentil salad with veg. I think if I have chicken tonight it'll help the cravings maybe!

Good idea single I have a pretty active job so I don't want to do anything too strenuous of an evening, but I should get back in to yoga! Maybe that will help.

Thanks user

Yoga is great

And hot drinks (unsweetened) are a real pickmeup too!

iamyourequal · 26/09/2017 20:23

Why not save a nice sweet treat for evening though? Even people on diets and doing well normally manage that. A small chocolate bar isn't going to do much damage. Enjoy it!

Magpie24 · 30/09/2017 21:48

Try and eat more during the day is my tip. I had this problem too but noticed it was mostly when I'd had a lighter lunch and breakfast.

LegoShmego · 30/09/2017 21:55

Thanks magpie I've started increasing my protein intake during the day and along with a little bit of willpower I've not been snacking in the eve!
Except tonight as I've drank a bit of wine!

Well done! Good luck. I also try eating frozen fruit after dinner (sounds weird but is kind of like eating an ice lolly). Frozen pineapple is my favourite

susannahmoodie · 01/10/2017 15:57

Brush your teeth instead??

NoMapOfMyHead · 01/10/2017 20:27

susannah that does actually work!
