Anyone tried tablets to help weight loss?

I have put on lots of weight since having a m/c last month, through comfort eating, over sleeping and generally being miserable on the sofa. I wondered if anyone had tried XLS/Alli/carb blockers etc with any success? Just looking to kick start weight loss without having to make a massive effort with planning/meal prep as I just don't have the emotional energy for it right now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mc, Pumbleton Flowers

I've never had OTC weight loss pills but years ago had some prescribed to me by my GP. If they're anything similar, any fat of any kind I ate would go straight through me (like oil!), to the point I'd be scared to eat anything fatty or calorific in public or if I were going out later that day. Let's just say, passing wind was like playing Russian Roulette Grin

They worked in the sense that I was so worried, I'd only really eat healthy food so did lose 2.5st. I avoided all "bad" comforts. If it's carbs that comfort you, depending on whether they're cooked in a way that's fatty or not, the pills may not help with that. I think I read that XLS works similarly to the ones I was on so maybe do your research if you do go ahead with pills.

In my experience of weight loss, I'd say it's a lot like depression, you need to peel away at the layers to find the cause of the effect. In a lot of cases of comfort eating there's a reason behind it or behaviours that are instilled in us that can cause people to put on weight. You are aware you're struggling with comfort eating since your mc, perhaps someone to talk to about that might curb the comfort eating eventually and allow you to focus on being healthy again?

Wishing you all the best with your goals Smile

Thank you for your lovely post @Meowstro I'm not keen on the idea of fat blockers with those side effects that's for sure!

I have decided to do slimfast ready made shakes for breakfast and lunch for 2 weeks, and use the xls appetite suppressant pills when I feel hungry and see how I go. I've done the shakes before and found it fairly easy. Hopefully after 2 weeks I'll be feeling better about myself so can transition to low sugar/carb which has worked for me before. I also bought myself the Joe wicks recipe book to look at the pictures for some inspiration.

I get what you're saying about the depression type feelings, but I think I just want to put the mc behind me and move forward, talking about it just makes me miserable and not sure it's constructive.

I'd love to know what weight loss strategies have worked for you x

Slimming world I would swear by. You'd never go hungry on it. I was on it last year but had to stop due to illness and since changed my diet. However, I still follow Pinch of Nom on Facebook which is a couple of member's recipes in line with the Slimming World diet. I have tried a good few and loved them, there are a fair few sweet recipes too.

You mentiond low carb, low sugar and I'd recommend it with high protein and veg, I'm currently doing it whilst eating full fats too and still losing weight in a non extreme way - it's recommended for GDM so it's been more out of necessity for me but I'd continue it. As long as you have a healthy heart, I can see why it works for so many people. I eat 3 meals a day as well as 3 snacks and never really go hungry since getting to grips with it. Fwiw, I think it may be similar to the Atkins diet but I've never done that.

Both require lifestyle changes though, the might not be as quick for an initial kick start. Although saying that, with slimming world I had a 5lb loss the first week - I think it totally shocked my system!

If you are going to do Slim Fast, my aunt told me Tesco do UltraSlim which is apparently near enough the same but cheaper and you can follow the same diet plan as you would slim fast.

I think whatever diet you go for it's going to be trial and error to some degree - you might have a bad week, you might not change one week or you might notice after the initial period you don't lose anything at all, it's what works for your own body. My friend has Joe Wicks books and loves them, maybe also for the pics!? You've got to have something that inspires you though!

As long as you have the support you need, Pumbleton, it'd be horrible to think that you're having to bottle things up as opposed to you just not wanting to talk about it.
