How to stay on track on holiday?

twotwofour · 15/07/2017 14:09

Holiday in a few weeks. U.K., self catering. Can't wait.

But I've lost nearly three stone, I'm half a stone from target and I'm worried that I'm going to get there and think FUCK IT and just eat everything in sight (I have problems with moderation).

Going with family who love booze and fatty pub lunches. And fry ups. All of which I would have previously considered delicious, but that's how I got fat.

How can I stay on track whilst away? Anyone managed it? I've already done a Sainsbo order full of healthy shit which will arrive on the first day we're there .

Well done on the 3st loss - that's incredible! I don't see why you can't indulge A LITTLE on holiday - that's why it's a holiday after all! What helps me is looking at what I'm about to eat and asking myself whether I'm really really going to enjoy it. If the answer is yes - go for it and try to stop when you're full.

Don't eat when you're not hungry.

I also sometimes replace meals with a dessert I really love. Don't do this often, as its just not healthy (regardless of calories) but allowing yourself this every now and then means you don't feel deprived.

Good luck, you can do this!

I have a two meal rule, it's usually lunch then dinner or brunch and dinner. Well done on the 3st you might do a little damage and I am a believer if you give yourself permission to indulge a little then you will not have the guilt. It's usually the guilt which leads to the binge.

Thank you both.

I definitely need to get my head around the idea that I can relax a little without having a week-long pig out sesh.

I always walk lots on holiday. Avoid deep fried anything and leave the bread if pub lunches are the thing. Spirits and low calorie mixers for drinks. I like vodka, lime and soda.
I was in a similar position two years ago. I gained 6lbs in two weeks as I did let go. I lost it all within two weeks of getting back on track. I was far more sensible last year and only gained 2lbs, which were gone again in an instant.

Thanks delilah. I'm not a bread person so that shouldn't be too much of a problem and I will be sure to hit the vodka instead of the wine Grin

I'm sure any gain can be dealt with swiftly, hopefully I won't do too much damage.

I lost nearly 2 stone last year for a 3 week road trip to california. I was eating huge american portions and pints of fizzy drinks etc but only put on 3lbs. Think it was because we did a lot of walking

I'm in a similar position. I'm on a self catering holiday in the UK for 2 weeks too. I'm on day 12. I have managed to stick to my 1800 kcal a day. I go out for a run every other evening when the children are asleep. Like you I struggle with moderation! My tips are:

  • continue to record everything
  • take your scales
  • exercise as much as possible
  • give yourself a couple of treats that stay within your limits. An ice cream isn't that calorific!
  • avoid snacking to save calories for meals.

I'm hoping to have lost a few pounds.

Good luck!

bad Thank you; they are great tips. I was actually planning on taking the scales but you have reminded me to pack my running stuff too.

Well done on your staying power - let us know how you get on.

I think the two meal rule is a good one; I (try) to do it on holiday, but have a late breakfast, if everyone is having a fry up what about having sausages, egg, mushroom and tomato? You're cutting out the bread, hash browns etc.
Then enjoy dinner.

I'm on holiday right now- 2 weeks self catering in Spain. I'm allowing myself 2 desserts in a restaurant and two ice creams as treats. Absolutely no crisps, cake or biscuits. I'm avoiding chips too; they came my meal today and I ate 3 and left the rest. One day to go and I've stuck to my resolve, in fact I've only had one dessert which I shared with my dh. I'm hoping to maintain as tbh I've drunk wine daily which is not usual for me. I think you'll manage to find ways to feel you're not missing out- you've done so well. Why scupper it?

twotwofour · 20/07/2017 20:31

Liking this two meal idea.

I bloody love chips though Envy

If everyone is having a full English have one too but don't have four slices of toast with it. Have a burger but not the chips. Or replace the chips with salad.

Also pick low calorie booze as a pp said. And walk /exercise whenever you can!

I promised I'd let you know how I got on. I lost 3 pounds on my 2 week holiday. Not amazing but not bad!! At least I didn't gain!
