I really need to do something to lose weight and I cant seem to do it on my own I put 6 stone on having my DS who is 2.5 and I have gained another 2 stone since having him so I am not I would say the fattest Mumsnetter at 23 stone

Anyway it really hit home the other day when at work somene called me chunk when he thought I was out of the room I need to lose it for my knees and my ds but I am really scared of going to sw on my own and being told I am too fat for the scales I was going to go this week but bottled out !

Surely they should get some better scales, rather than you not go - or your first goal could be to get a reading on the scales and then take it from there.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 16/03/2007 23:45

but I dont know how height their scales go to

Their scales will go up to that pet xx

AitchYouBerk · 17/03/2007 00:07

oh you poor thing, that must have been very hurtful to hear your colleague call you a name. if i was you i'd give the organiser a ring (name should be on the leaflets, i'd have thought) and just explain everything. they're on your side, they want to help.

chubbleigh · 17/03/2007 00:16

Go anyway, they aren't going to laugh at you, tutors/leaders are very discrete about weighing you. Going to the first class is a big step. Just take a deep breath and walk through the door.

VioletBaudelaire · 17/03/2007 00:19

It'll be fine - there will be people there to support you, and I bet the weight restriction on the scales won't even be an issue.
Ignore your colleague - he sounds like a prat!
You can do this for yourself and for your son!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 17/03/2007 08:27

Thank you all I know in some ways I am using it as a barrier (I dont know why) its as though I dont want to lose the weight but I so d

There are other big MNetters out there! I am 7 stones overweight! I also used to go to SW (it is v good) and their scales definitely went up past that because there was a guy in our class who was about 30 stone. Dont let it stop you going please because there will be others there who felt the same. xxx Can I also reccomend the bigMoFos thread on here - a lovely bunch!

Laura032004 · 17/03/2007 08:35

The scales go above 23 stone. Can't remember exactly, but think it was something like 30 stone. I used to be a SW group leader, and have had people weighing much more than that. If you are worried, ring up the group leader in advance, and discuss it with her. I would usually have invited you to attend the meeting, talked you through the eating programme, and then given you the option to be weighed and pay to join the group at the end of the session. This is how it should be done. Then your first weigh is fairly private. No-one else should see your weight, all people will hear is your losses - and believe me, your first few weeks will be fantastic if you follow the programme to the letter. Hope it all goes well for you.

LowFatMilkshake · 17/03/2007 08:43

Please go - SW is great - I lost 5st with them and got down from 19st to 14. The only reason I dont go anymore is there is not a clas near me that i can get to.

Do you a have a friend or someone to go with for moral support? Or why not visit thier website first if you are still doubtful, you could e-mail them your concerns.

Good luck!

Slimming World is a very good weight loss plan. We have a girl at our group at the moment who hs only been going for two months and she got her two stone weight loss award the other day.
I wanted to offer that you came with me for company but unfortunately we don't live near each other.

VioletBaudelaire · 17/03/2007 17:23

What area of the country are you in, TLSM?
There might be a MNetter in your area that you could go to meetings with?

WideWebWitch · 17/03/2007 17:25

I tell you what, Slimming World or any of the weight loss clubs would be pretty bloody stupid if they only had scales that went up to 10 stone or something

fussymummy · 17/03/2007 22:37

Don't feel alone, i'm another big mn!

Where do you live?

Maybe someone on here will come with you to classes.

Lots of diet threads on here for lots of support.

I've just lost 37 lbs in 10 weeks on cambridge diet.

You get weighed at the counsellors home and its a one to one meeting each week which i prefer.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 18/03/2007 19:04

you know I have been away since yesterday morning and have come back to read all your messages its so nice to know that there are some lovely people out there I am going to go becasue I need to make a start thank you all very much xxx

Hi, Tlsm - I'm sure you'll feel so much better when you make that start. I'm 6 stone overweight and tried SW. Wasn't for me but did give me a huge confidence boost knowing I was taking action about something that makes me unhappy.

Just want to wish you luck and to let you know you're not alone

IntergalacticWalrus · 18/03/2007 19:17

Want to second what everyone else has said.

SW is great! It's the best plan I have ever followed (and I have done em all!) I have lost just under 2 stone since DS2 was born in September (still have another 3 to go)

I spoke to a guy a few weeks ago who has lost 17 STONE with SW, and is still 5 stone away from target. He said if he can do it, anyone xcan.

Walking through the door is tough, but I am sure you will find lots of friendly non judgemental people there. Just remeber, some will have more to lose, some will have less, but everyone is there for the same reason.

Good luck!!!!

(If you are in Bristol, you can come to my group with me!)

Laura032004 · 19/03/2007 14:08

Just to confirm, checked my books, and the scales go up to 36 stone and 7 pounds. I hope it goes well for you. I lost 4 & a half stone with Slimming World in a year prior to becoming a consultant. It was the best eating plan (not a diet ) that I've ever followed. Can't recommend it enough. It will change your eating habits for life.
