I WANT TO WALK THE WEIGHT OFF

I have 2 stone to lose and am finding it incredibly difficult with 3 children. I find it hard to resist any treats they may have but feel I can get past this if I really put my mind to it.

I want to get out and walk more but this has to be done with the pram, so I was wondering has anyone else managed to use power walking (with pram) to help them lose weight.

yes

I had a good 7-8 kg to lose and I didn't consciously do power walking but chose a pre-school for my eldest that was a good 20 minute fast uphill walk away. Had to take the double buggy (which weighed a tonne!) and after about 6 months, all the weight had gone.

thanks fox, I thought if I set aside 45 mins - 1 hour a day during the week when oldes 2 children are at school and pre school I could go for a brisk walk pushing the pram and this would count as exercise.
I really need to get some weight off and want to do it with exercise... do you think this will work.

what about investing in a pedometer so you can set goals?

foxinsocks · 16/03/2007 20:12

yes, it really can work. Watch what you eat too - don't dramatically cut your food, but try and cut out stuff like biscuits/crisps and up your fruit. Remember to take water with you - I found I was EXHAUSTED for the first few weeks (because I was very very unfit too).

Try and start off slowly and build it up (so maybe in the first week do 30 mins, next week 45 mins and then an hour) because no doubt with 3, you are still quite knackered and you don't want to wear yourself out .

Yes: I walk a lot with the pram (not conscious power walking) cos DS won't really nap anywhere else! An hour or so a day really makes a difference - prob more so than a gym session once or twice a week. And it's easier on your knees

get a pedometer. it really does help you keep a track of what you have achieved. I'm on my 3rd (had to return first two cos they werent working ). I now have a SILVA make which was a bit expensive at 14 quid but is worth every penny.

I have been walking for thirty minutes daily at pace (working up a sweat, and achy thighs/bum to follow the next day)since january.

I have stopped snacking.

I run once a week for forty minutes.

I have lost a stone since January, but now not losing weight or at least have slowed down dramatically, but walking at pace with a buggy does make a difference.

I include as many hills as possible.

I have a pedometer but its just a weight watchers one from a few years ago when I enrolled in WW. I will try using that and see how I go and if its worth while will invest in a better on. I am going to start monday when the children are at school/pre school.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2007 17:16

if only it would work, eh?

belgo · 17/03/2007 17:26

I walk everyday more then an hour most days with a pram, including hill walking, and it makes me feel great, and has helped me get rid of the baby weight. Takes perserence though!

misdee · 17/03/2007 17:29

yes you can. when dd1+2 were little, i had a big tandem pram, very heavey. i didnt drive. through just walking alone, i lost 3stones

i would walk for over an 1hour+ a day.
