I think so, I know I'm 5'5" and weighed 10 stone for ages & fitted into a size 12.

hoxtonchick · 07/07/2004 12:12

That gives you a BMI of just over 24 which is absolutely fine.

bunnyrabbit · 07/07/2004 12:25

OMG if I looked at BMI I might just despair.

eefs · 07/07/2004 12:50

how does one calculate bmi? and what are the good ranges?

gothicmama · 07/07/2004 12:52

20-25 is ok less than 20 underweight see here

bunnyrabbit · 07/07/2004 12:56

Can't seem to access the link. Is the bbc website down?

Fairyfly · 07/07/2004 12:59

mummytosteven · 07/07/2004 13:05

bunnyrabbit · 07/07/2004 13:05

Fairyfly · 07/07/2004 13:06

Well i have just worked out if i loose a pound i will be healthy so i'll just have a poo, no chance of a stroke then

bunnyrabbit · 07/07/2004 13:10

All a bit silly really isn't it? I mean, how can they know how much my bones weigh? How much my boobs weigh?

I've just worked out that even when I was 21, a size 12, and fighting fit (literally as was really into martial arts) I still had a BMI of over 24. How silly is that? I was super fit without an ounce of fat on me.

BR
PS Still get upset by this wort of thing though

mummytosteven · 07/07/2004 13:13

BR - that's coz muscle actually weighs more than fat. Anyway you don't have to be BMI 20 to be fighting fit - I think a lot of girls set unrealistically low weight targets at the bottom of the healthy range. I suspect tho that most people can be quite confident that the extra weight is fat rather than muscle - I know I can!

Fairyfly · 07/07/2004 13:16

Don't get upset, you know yourself how you feel, i want to loose weight without a chart telling me. When you were younger it must have been muscle making you weigh more, do you not fancy taking up martial arts again?

spikeycat · 07/07/2004 13:20

fairyfly, that made me giggle about having a poo! The only reason I asked is that I am filling out an application form where it asked for the info. Trying to be good as well, left ds1 (18mnths) and ds2 (12 weeks) in the creash (SP) yesterday while I went for a swim - aching all over today

Had thought about taking up martial arts again, but no time really. I used to do about 10 traiing sessions a week.....Anyway, far too old for anyone to take me seriously (although I can still do the splits!)

Have started being good and going to the Gym once a week and am doing 'mumsnet Mamas' weigh-ins, but to be honest, even if I reach my target weight, I'll still be above the reccomended BMI. Suppose I could cut my boobs off!!

BR
PS I always go to the toilet before weighing myself!!
