What was the thing / moment that spurred you into losing weight?

I found out that (now ex) friends had been discussing how much weight I had gained. Fuckwits.

I knew I had to sort myself out but that gave me the huge kick up the arse I needed.

I'm 1.5 stone down, doing it for me and fucking happy.

Anyone else?

I started this journey for all the wrong reasons, but in the end I'm at least happy I did it.

I saw myself in a photo. I'm now a stone down and back to feeling fab.

kate I saw some photos of myself that were shocking, too. Unfortunately I mentally talked myself out of doing anything about it at that point. The camera lies, unflattering angle etc. In reality it was showing me just how big I'd got.

Mum is that is partly what's making me try to reverse the weight gain. And a few not so flattering pics and my lovely wardrobe of clothes no longer fits. Did you get your times back down?
I have a little under a stone to get to my happy weight but really want to be there for my holidays in 8 weeks. Fingers crossed

My DD (1.5) would only eat what I was eating so I had to swap to healthier stuff.

Don't fit into my favourite clothes.

My running pace is appalling.

Got bored of picking things from the wardrobe on grounds of what fits well enough instead of what's nice on.

Sick of people not taking any notice of me.

Wearing rubbish clothes.

Most importantly, to conceive.

Haven't found it yet - heavier than I have ever been and looking for inspiration.

I hope you find it in a positive way, misty

Those who have spoken about running - is it easier when you're lighter? I would like to start but still feel like I'm slugging a massive weight around.

I meant to also say thank you for your replies. It's interesting to see what has given people that lightbulb moment. Sorry to those of you who have had a shitty time.

I had an emergency gall bladder removal two days before Christmas. They weighed me and that was the first time I'd known my weight for years. I was horrified and decided to take advantage of the first week post op of having no appetite to kick start losing weight. I've lost just over 2s since then and am now in the healthy weight range. I'd like to lose another 10lbs and then maintain.

Well done, noofly. What a great achievement.

My GP tried to weigh me and his scales didn't go high enough. Had to go to weight watchers just to get weighed.

I've just started to do something about after becoming overweight for the first time my life.
Having to buy size 14 jeans, after already going from size 8/10 to a 12 has given me a kick up the backside. Also seeing a photo of me looking rather round and having to buy some 'full briefs' to avoid belly overhang 😕
I also, more importantly want to be healthy.

Running is massively easier with every pound lost. There are websites dedicated to calculating the effect on your pace of even small weight loss.

Body weight exercises like press ups, triceps dips, burpees, jumping etc all get much easier with weight loss.

Personally, I think the rewards of easier running and easier press ups come quicker than the rewards of skinny jeans. Also, I will put down the cake because of this weeks running more than I'll put it down for this weeks weight loss.

Interval running is brilliant for seeing fast improvement from the combo of healthy eating and the training.

It's easy. Your level of fitness is irrelevant. Go out for 20-30 minutes. Go at an easy pace (walking is fine) until you feel warm and loose, then go hard for 30 seconds, stop, go super easy for 30 seconds. Repeat hard/easy until you've done 6 or 8 hard ones. Then go at an easy pace until your 20-30 mins is up. It doesn't matter one bit how fast you are moving in the easy and hard sections or whether you are running or walking. All that matters is that the hard feels properly hard and the easy feels properly easy.

It is surprising how quickly you improve. Maybe will feel that the 8th hard run isn't so much harder than the 1st hard any more or maybe that you have to go faster to get the hard to be hard at all, or you notice that 30 seconds hard has placed you an extra two trees forward of where you usually end up or that after the 30 seconds recovery you feel much better recovered or that you need to move up towards 60 seconds hard and 60 seconds easy to get properly hard hard intervals. It can get a bit addictive.

I wanted to conceive. I've got PCOS so my weight could have had a negative effect on my ability to conceive.
Lost 4.5 stone.

I'm hoping Selfobsessions post might be it! I don't need to lose much, have been trying (and failing) since Xmas and reassuring myself it isn't happening as I have PCOS. Yet selfobsession lost 4.5 stone. I haven't even lost 4.5lbs since Xmas.

wrinkles low GI is your friend with PCOS, once I got my head round it and I was in control I lost the weight. I did the blood sugar diet, though I didn't go as low calorie as the book suggested as I work long days in a physical job and needed the extra.

Getting towards my mid 40s and thinking that I really did NOT want to hit 50 at 15 stones and a size 20 Sad It felt bad enough having to be 50—and realising that I should now be looking at SAGA holidays, rather then Club 18-30 Shock–without being overweight to boot!

It was monumental struggle but I hit 50 in March this year at 8 stones 12 and a size 8. I feel amazing .....

Felt horrible every time I wanted to buy new clothes cause nothing looked nice on me (so I felt)
Fed up with being stuck in a cycle of eating rubbish foods to cheer myself up constantly, then feeling guilty about it
Finally got sick of the "I'll start tomorrow" mindset too. Overall just got frustrated with myself.
