Ooh what about one of those hula hoop ring things kids play with? Or is that more waist?!

cazzybabs · 04/07/2004 23:52

Well - I found just doing fat burning excersise usallu gets rid of flab from all areas - try swimming for an hour - remember you need to do more than 20 mintues a day for it to be affective.

I have found pilates very good. Very specific on the tummy area which gives support to your back (very important as Mums have to carry heavy toddlers around). You need to do all the sit up exercises etc with your tummy tucked in - if you let it pop up you will be left with a permanent pot belly no matter what exercise you do. It does work even though am only recently feeling some of the deep muscles as have had two c-sections.

I agree with Pilates. Try a 100 and your 'midriff' will be toned in no time.

In our house, that area is known as my 'wheat and dairy shelf'. Too many cheese sandwiches and it expands.

Lots of Cardio stuff to burn any fat (should you have any!!) and then a good exercise is to lie on back, put legs straight up into the air, cross ankles and try to touch your toes 20 times with straight arms!! Now swap over your ankles and repeat!!

IIRC - there are three sets of muscles in one's stomach.
traditional sit-ups do the upper stomach muscles (the bit you're talking about),
cross-over sit-ups touching your opposite knee does the side muscles
lying on your back and holding your straightened legs a few inches above the ground do the lower muscles (below the belly button).

a combination of these three exercises do all the stomach muscles in any case.
