New thread for a new week.

OP posts:

You're allowed them eventually on Atkins, once you've established how many carbs you can take without stalling your weight loss. Erm, in my case, hardly any, it seems so far. Still, early days.

littlemisssensible · 13/03/2007 11:57

On GI you can have carbs from the start but they need to be complex carbs.

The principle is that you cut out the foods which are turned into sugars/energy quickly by your digestive system and eat those which take longer to digest. This should stop the 'sugar' spikes and stop you feeling hungry etc.

I find it works for me with regard to how full I feel and what my energy levels are like..BUT...it doesn't stop those I'm feeling down/bored/out of sorts 'raid the fridge' feelings! Thats where I've really gotta do some work! Any ideas any one?

twoisenoughmum · 13/03/2007 20:59

Quickly popping in - DH needs to get on computer and is hovering around - to say

  1. Mrs JC!!!!!!!!!!! Hooray. That cardigan is lovely but ... that gorgeous little boy inside it is just ... stupendous. Very well done indeed, and how nice that you didn't have to be induced.
  1. Thanks for my crown (preen). 1lb off, only another 27lb to go . It will take me about 5 years at the rate I'm going so I do hope you're all planning on sticking around for a while.
  1. I know I need to go down the low carb route, I know that's where my problem lies (its my love affair with the potato [and the grape] thats caused all my problems) but, like JackieNo, I cannot imagine I could do it. I fully empathise with SueJ, I'm sure I would be obsessing about carbs within about 10 minutes of starting on Atkins or anything similar.
  1. Where is DottyDot these days?

Hoping the rest of you are all well. Think I may have lost a little bit more this week - the thighs of my jeans are feeling strangely baggy. Will let you know.

suejonez · 14/03/2007 12:19

I do much better on GI than Atkins and its a more sustainable way for me to diet. But unfortunately, just eating too much isn;t solved by any of these diets. For the first time in a long time I am scared of getting on the scales this week!!!

JackieNo · 14/03/2007 12:21

Diets only address the 'eating too much' or 'eating the wrong things' problem but not the emotional eating, which is what I think a lot of us do - certainly I do. I'm not looking forward to weighing in either sue.

OP posts:
suejonez · 14/03/2007 12:39

perhaps we can hold hands before getting on the scales Jackie

JackieNo · 14/03/2007 12:41

Good idea - I'm certainly going to have put on this week - it's just a question of how much.

OP posts:
littlemisssensible · 14/03/2007 12:42

I agree too! I can and have lose weight on various diets (not Carol Vordaman's obviously! )but I still put on weight when some sort of emotional issue comes along whether it be because I'm down or because its christmas/easter/some other celebration and I'm happy! In fact I can think of far more reasons to stuff my face than not to!

JackieNo · 14/03/2007 12:47

Just had to go and find this quote - although it's about drinking champagne, it kind of describes how I feel about eating:

Lily Bollinger was asked "When do you drink champagne?", and replied:
I only drink champagne when I'm happy, and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I am not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty.

littlemisssensible · 14/03/2007 12:54

LOL!

Yep, that about sums it up!

suejonez · 14/03/2007 12:56

I love it Jackie

twoisenoughmum · 14/03/2007 13:15

I love it too!

ForcesSweetheart · 14/03/2007 21:10

Just a quick pop in to say hello. Finding I have a lot less time than I thought I would while he's away on exercise at the mo. Am certain I'll have put on this week! Hope you've all done better.

justamum · 15/03/2007 00:25

hello, this stranger thought she'd pop in to say hello after congratulating mrs JC on the birth of her beautiful boy. I haven't entirely given up on mumsnet, its just that I have to acknowledge that coming on here does nothing to help my insomnia! which is ironic as its almost 12.30am as i type.

I hope everyone is well, I am fine (sort of) Good luck with weighing in!

agalch · 15/03/2007 12:16

Lost 3.5lbs this week.Think joining the gym has helped

JackieNo · 15/03/2007 13:23

Ooh agalch - well done you. I'm going to weigh once I've picked up DD from school.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 15/03/2007 15:40

Well I've put on a pound. I've definitely earned every ounce of that - am surprised it's not more, tbh.

OP posts:
Fauve · 15/03/2007 18:06

I've just about managed to scrape off a pound.

JackieNo · 15/03/2007 18:07

Well done Fauve.

Sue, are you happy to do the weights this week, or do you want me to do them?

OP posts:
Dottydot · 15/03/2007 18:46

Hi all - sorry I've been AWOL... I'm having a really stressful time a work, so eating far far too much - binge eating, and have been too depressed really to post.

But, having skipped WW last week (and spent the money on chips at Burger King...), I'm going tonight to see what the damage is - I'm estimating about 4lbs on - but at least I'm going!

Will try and start posting again - I just find it really hard when I'm on a downer and eating like crazy. Will post my weight gain tomorrow, and start again. Sigh.

suejonez · 15/03/2007 20:53

Hi Dotty you're not the only one - I've put on 2 lbs this week in addition to the 1.5 I put on last week
Its OK jackie I'll do weights this week

suejonez · 15/03/2007 20:55

Only had four responses - roll up roll up, any more?

ForcesSweetheart · 16/03/2007 00:20

Wow well done agalch and fauve!

I had a surprise loss of 1.5lb this week. I've eaten SO much junk, the only explanation can be the orlistat pills. Now kicking myself a bit, coz think how much I coulda lost if I hadn't been eating all that. Gonna have to get my act together or the doc's gonna take me off the pills (I reckon in the back of my mind I'm using them as an excuse to overeat even more coz I know a third of the fat won't be absorbed). Read in the leaflet with them that you get taken off them if you haven't lost 10% of your body weight in 12 weeks. As I had already lost some in the week before she put me on them, that means I need to get to about 18st 5lb I think, am only at 20st 4lb 3 weeks in. 2 stone in 9-10 weeks, gonna be a stretch

CheesyFeet · 16/03/2007 11:13

One pound off

So a stone in total

does happy dance

My eating has been shocking this week though, so don't expect to keep it off

Agalch well done you are an inspiration. And well done Fauve too, "scrape off a pound" I like that turn of phrase, I will remember it and use it myself.

littlemisssensible · 16/03/2007 11:13

Well done Agalch and Fauve! And commiserations to those who've put some on I know how depressing that feels.

I've actually lost 2 and 1/4 lbs this week so I'm feeling a bit chuffed, although its really only the AF bloat that gone! Mind you the old body fat% has dropped again so maybe I'll just get leaner rather than lighter! The gym is obviously working!
